AN: This one I personally like a lot. In class, we had to write an intro paragraph using descriptive words, and I jumped right in with a lot of inspiration. Hope you like it!

I could hear the dogs barking in the distance, the waves crashing a few miles away, and the crickets singing their sweet lullaby. If I were to listen close enough, I could have heard the stars twinkling, wishing their sweet humans goodnight. I smelt garlic and cheese from the Italian restaurant a few blocks away from my home. I sensed all this, but I did not notice my closest friend. My friend who keeps everything away, including other nightmares.

It makes sense since they are a nightmare themselves.

Most people would be scared in my position. Most people would scream and cry. They would yell for help. They would become paranoid, knowing there is something in the dark, watching over them. Waiting. Most people would probably be sent to an asylum before they can become a danger to themselves and those surrounding them.

But not me. No, I know what is hiding in the dark, watching over me. They are watching as I sleep, as I eat, whenever I leave. They never left.

September 6th, 2001

They started showing themselves to me when I was four.

"Mama!"

"Yes, baby?"

"Me has a new friend!"

The mother gains a confused face, "Where is your new friend, baby?"

"Right over there! They protect me from inside da closet!"

"There isn't anyone in there, hon."

I kept having similar occurrences. Simple things at first. Like, when my mom threw my favorite blanket away at age 5, it came back the next day and I was found in my room cuddling it with the closet door opened and things moving as if someone entered and left my closet. I was fine, but my blanket had a small word stitched into the purple fabric. Protect. My mother had called the police, to make sure we were not in danger. They told her no one had broken in. They checked the cameras too. No one except my mother had entered the house.

I've learned a lot since then. I made rules to go by. Well, they helped me with the rules. "They", I keep writing "they". Let me go a little more in-depth.

My friend is 6"9 and somehow can fit inside my small closet. Their arms are as long as my body, which is 5"5. Their legs are smaller but are still large. Maybe about half my size.

That's all I have in this story for now. I'm planning on adding more, but I am willing to take feedback! I will probably not have a stable publishing schedule for a while until I know people read the crap I put out on this site, but yeah! Hope you enjoyed, nonexistent readers!

You've reached the end of published parts.
