Hi. My name is Charlie. It is 2043. I am a sixteen year old female. I survived the zombie apocalypse and here is my story.

BANG! I rushed silently away from the noise. Adrenaline rushing, head throbbing and feet kicking I finally got to the hiding spot. I crouched down and waited. In minuets Seraphine arrived out of breath and sweating. She had the supplies in her hands. We heard a loud groan near by. Seraphine gasped. I looked behind her and saw that two human-like figures were shuffling towards us. "Run!" I screamed. Seraphine and I ran side by side with our backpacks swinging. Looking back I saw that there were six zombies chasing us.

We were too slow. The infected were gaining on us. We needed help soon otherwise we would have to get rid of some of the weight we were carrying. The packs were holding us back a huge amount. Right when I was losing hope, three male soldiers came up behind the futile zombies. One by one the infected fell as they were shot.

A helicopter flew past us, lifting sand into our lungs, making us cough. It landed many yards to the left. Seraphine and the Warriors darted to it but I hesitated. Something didn't feel right. The blazing sun towered over the earth making it impossible to see what was going on in the distance. Though I could not see the rescue crew or Seraphine, I could hear hundreds of voices moaning.

A shrill scream erupted in the far horizon. I recognized the cry as Seraphine. Bolting towards the commotion I could pick out her petite frame. I saw the soulless infected trample her. Right beside Seraphine was another body. It was twitching. I could barely make out that the body belonged to one of the fierce soldiers who had saved us only minutes before.

Before I could do anything, two pairs of hands grabbed me by the shoulders and pulled me the opposite direction. It was the other two.

We ran for what seemed for hours on end. Tears trickled down my face as I thought of Seraphine's golden long hair covered in blood and dirt. She had been my partner since I had found her hiding under a bed. That was months ago when the disease first started to spread across the world.

One of the soldiers started coughing from inhaling too much the sand and dust so I handed him a black cloth to cover his nose and mouth like a mask. The sun was starting to set behind the large city but it was still insanely hot.

We found an empty apartment building to set up camp. It was in ruins with no roof. We set down a few blankets. A hand held gas lamp lit the dark room. I could see that the two soldiers were brothers and probably twins. They were both seventeen. Both had a buzz cut and had dark eyes. Their ears were big and noticeable. Instead of talking we all sat in silence mourning the ones we had lost.

I broke the silence. "So who are you guys?" To me it sounded very rude and eager. "My name is Randy and this is Jo." Said the one with more freckles than the other. He continued "Our crew was sent by General Macias to save as many survivors as we could. We started out as ten but were separated a few days ago in Washington, D.C."

Stretching out my legs in front of me I asked, "Do you have a plan or are we just wandering?" Again, I sounded very demanding. Randy and Jo glanced at each other for a slight moment before Jo said, "Well, the nearest military base is four hundered miles south from D.C." He hesitated before saying, "It may or may not still be operational."

We made plans to start traveling there in the morning even though we were only guessing about the base being inhabited with humans.

Jo had night shift the first part of the gloomy evening. I fell asleep as soon as I closed my exhausted eyes.

I was dreaming. I could see myself standing on the bridge with Seth by my side. My short brown hair was flying in my face from the wind. We were getting ready to jump. Zombies at either side of us hunting for human flesh. "One, two..." I grabbed Seth's hand, "Three!" Neither of us jumped. I saw one of the infected grab Seth by his arm and bite. He fell to his knees, shaking and gasping. Seth's spiky strawberry blond hair was spotted with blood. It only took moments before his mouth started foaming and his blue eyes turned red and puffy. Seth was one of them. I then saw myself freeze. I then saw myself freeze. The one I loved had turned. My boy friend was gone. I tried to yell for myself to run but could not get the words out. The zombies were charging at me.

I bolted up screaming, with sweat soaking my hair and clothes. Jo seemed worried. "You alright?" He whispered. His hazel eyes looked tired. "Yeah. Just a dream." I muttered. Then I asked, "Do you think I caught anything's attention?" We sat and listened for any noise that could be a zombie. After a few minutes we decided that we would be okay.

I stayed up the rest of the night to keep watch. The moonlight seeped through a broken window eerily, creating creepy shadows.
