A couple months later, Tasha had been doing great with a lot of therapy and medication. Her and Brett had been spending a lot of time together before he went off to Illinois.
When she was in the hospital, Tasha tested positive for being pregnant. She was so devastated and disappointed. She couldn't tell Brett or her mom. A few weeks later, she ended up having a miscarriage. It was like a blessing in disguise. Tasha was so relieved she wasn't pregnant with that bastard's child.
Reliving those thoughts made her shudder as she looked out her window. Even though therapy was helping, it still didn't help that she was constantly thinking about the torture she endured. She was thankful to be back with her family.
"Tasha?" Her mother asked, knocking on her door. "Brett's here."
Tasha smiled as she bounded down the stairs seeing the handsome man standing in her living room.
"Hey." He said.
"Hi." She said, hugging him.
"You guys look so adorable." Tasha's mother said, smiling.
"Mom." Tasha glared in embarrassment.
"Ms. Williams, I'm going off to college next fall in Illinois. I was wondering if Tasha could come up there?" Brett asked.
"Like visit?" She asked.
"Um..... Like live there." He said.
Tasha's mother looked at him like he had three heads.
"And why would she do that? She won't know anyone there except you. I'm not fond of her getting into another situation like she was in." Tasha's mother explained.
"I understand. I would protect her." Brett said.
"She's protected here." Her mother said, crossing her arms.
"Okay. I'm sorry." He said. "Tasha, I'm gonna go."
"But-" Tasha murmured.
"I'll text you." He said with a smile as he left the house.
Once the door was closed, Tasha turned towards her mother with her arms crossed. "Why would you say that?"
"Tasha, you don't really know him! And with everything you've been through, it's not a good idea."
"Not unless I experience it for myself! You can't keep me locked up here forever!" Tasha said as she stormed up to her room and locked the door.
"I'm doing this for your own good!" Her mother yelled.
"Mom, she's right." Charlie said. "She was sixteen when she got abducted. Now she's twenty-three. She needs her own life."
Their mother contemplated the thought. Maybe Charlie was right. Tasha needed to experience life for herself.
Tasha laid on her bed, crying. She finally found someone who loved her for her and now she couldn't be with him. She was an adult after all.
Suddenly, she heard a knock on her bedroom door and her mother's voice.
"Go away!" She yelled.
The door soon opened as she felt her mother sit next to her on the bed.
"Honey, I'm sorry I got upset. I just.... I haven't seen you in seven years! You're an adult now. I feel like I've missed so much!"
"That's cause you have!" Tasha said sitting up. "But I'm here now. If it makes you feel any better, I can stay here for another year, get my GED and then apply to the universities."
"That would be acceptable."
Tasha smiled and hugged her mom, feeling a sense of completeness now that she was finally home.
