❝ I'll pluck those stars

Broken glass bottle in hand, Ara advanced on the three boys that were slowly backing away in fear. Did she know what she was doing? Absolutely not. All she knew was that she had to teach these boys a lesson. After all, the girl was known to be righteous the point where it was annoying.
"I-I told you to leave her alone!" She shouted and hoped that they wouldn't notice her little stutter. As scared as she was, she didn't want them to know. They stood way taller than she did and her eyes could easily spot the growing muscles under their school shirt. It was all too obvious that they could take her on if not for the sharp glass in her hand.
One of the boys held out both of his palms in an attempt to stop the short girl from coming any closer. "Alright, alright! Just put the bottle down so that we can pass," he says as he tries to persuade her.
Narrowing her eyes at them, she slowly lowered her arm and watched as the group of boys edged a little closer. They didn't break eye contact at all as they finally managed to run away from the alleyway they were stuck in.
"That's right! You better run!" Ara yelled at their retreating figures. An old lady passing by widened her eyes and quickened her steps when she noticed what was in the girl's hand. Ara could only apologise as she quickly discarded the broken beer bottle.
ring, ring
Ara fished out her phone from her pocket and without checking the caller ID she pressed answer.
"Where are you?!" The person on the line whispered hurriedly to the girl. This time Ara checked to see who it was and breathed a sigh of relief when she saw that it was just Sana, her best friend. "Morning assembly is gonna start in 2 minutes and you're not here yet! How are you gonna get past Mr. Kim at the front gate?"
Ara could only groan. If it was any other teacher on duty this morning she could have flashed an innocent smile with an apology and they would let her go. But Mr. Kim? If there was one teacher to be avoided, it was him, and Ara learnt that very early on.
"I'll jump over the wall. It's not like it's my first time..."
"And you think that's something to be proud of? We've only been in high school for two weeks!" Sana snaps back. "Besides, what's your excuse this time?"
"I saw a group of boys ganging up on this girl-" suddenly the teenage girl stopped talking. Realisation hits her as she whirls around trying to find the girl she had worked so hard to rescue. She ran away? Oh well.
"Never mind that. Hurry up and get here before you get detention. Again."
Securing her backpack on her shoulder, Ara began running as fast as her short legs allowed. In the meantime she thought of what excuses she could give in case going over the wall was a bust. Then again she knew no matter what she would say it would end in detention anyway.
Buildings and passerby's never looked as blurry to Ara as they did at this moment. In fact, she thought she was going to collapse if she had to run any faster. Luckily, the entrance to school came in view - but so did the figure of Mr. Kim, and in his hands, a wooden stick. She didn't know whether he carried that around for decoration but she also had no intention of finding out either way.
Slowing down, the girl let herself catch her breath before slipping behind a tree to hide herself. Now all she had to do was swing her bag to the other side before she could hoist herself up and over the wall.
"Alright, Ara, let's do this!" She silently cheered herself on as she successfully threw her bag over. Next, she pulled herself up and quickly jumped down. "Yes! I did it! No detention for me today," she said in a singsong voice while dusting herself off and retrieving her bag.
"I wouldn't be sure about not having detention." Whoever had spoken sounded calm but Ara could sense the determination in his voice. She was sure enough that it wasn't Mr. Kim though. With dread, Ara turned around ready to beg to whoever had found her but instead she found herself speechless.
It was him.
He was exactly as all the girls had described him. He stood tall as the tall branches, his skin as white as milk and the way his shirt fit perfectly around the muscles on his bicep almost made Ara gasp.
Jung Jaehyun is really handsome! Ara thought giddily to herself until she realised that he was part of the school council and was about to give her detention for being late and jumping over the wall.
Surprising both herself and Jaehyun, she suddenly spoke up in a panic. "I promise I won't do it again! Just don't give me detention."
"Rules are rules," replied Jaehyun simply with a shrug.
"Wait, wait," she said pleadingly. "I can explain why I was late. You see, there was this girl being bullied by these boys and I stepped in trying to help but I didn't realise how quick time was going. Can you at least let me off for being a good citizen?" Ara hoped the last part would appeal to him as someone in the student council. Being good pupils and all.
Jaehyun thought about it.
In fact he was already annoyed at being asked to parole the school yard when it wasn't even his duty. Not to mention those creepy letters he had been receiving every morning since the start of school. Giving someone detention now meant that he had take them to the teacher's office which was on the opposite side of the building of where he had to be for class in a few minutes. The whole journey would be tiresome and pointless.
"Alright," Jaehyun started, "I'll let you go this once but don't let this happen again," he warned sternly.
"Thank you so much! I promise it won't." The teenage girl was delighted and after numerous deep bows in his direction, she ran off in the direction to her class, leaving Jaehyun alone leaning against the wall of which she had just climbed over.
