"Beep, beep, beep." My alarm clock screeches at me to wake up. Annoyed, I smash my hand into the top of my alarm and it finally goes quiet.
I sigh into my pillow. Mondays. We all hate them. School holds so many things, but yet it can be the most boring place on earth.
But the thing is, I like school. Especially the element training course that we all have to take every other day.
I've always felt natural at that, and I'm pretty good at it too. I guess I have an advantage, being the only light bender and all.
I sit up in my bed, in the middle of my still dark room and blink once. Suddenly, everything turns light again, like its the middle of day. That is one of my abilities.
I slowly creep out of my bed, careful not to wake my parents as I get ready for school. I use my enhanced vision to help guide me to the bathroom.
I finally get there, and stop to look in the mirror for a second.
I am different from everyone else. I always have been, and always will.
My hair falls in long, blonde-white strands down to the top of my rib cage. That's one abnormal thing about me, nobody else has my hair.
The thing that surprises almost every person I meet, is my eyes.
Right now, they are fully a piercing white. But that's because I'm using one of my abilities.
I blink again and everything goes dark once more. I flick on the light switch in the bathroom so I can see. Now, my eyes are an electrifying blue, with a white ring in the middle.
Every time I use my light bending, my eyes switch over to fully white. I don't really know why, but it would be interesting to find out.
I quickly get dressed into some regular skinny jeans and sweatshirt, not really caring about fashion and only caring about the fact that it's ten degrees out.
I brush my teeth, comb my hair, say goodbye to my awoken parents (mother : Air bender. Father : non elemental), and head out the door, not bothering to eat anything.
I start my walk to school. Keeping my eyes on the path in front of me with my night vision on because it's still pretty dark out. It's only 6:30.
My hair stands on end in the freezing cold wind. And my teeth chatter uncontrollably. To bad I'm not a fire bender, I could heat myself up.
The thing with light benders is, if we want to, or if their body senses that we need to, we can pull energy from the light of the sun. It just kind of fuels us somehow.
By us I mean the only two known existing light benders. Me, and another person I don't know, who I think lives in Europe.
I finally catch sight of the school and start jogging there, wanting to get out of the cold as fast as possible.
Heat floods my body once I open the school doors. I sigh with the warm relief.
As I walk to the gym where I meet up with my friends every day, I blink once and slightly feel my eyes turning back to blue.
I see a couple people stop to watch my eyes change for a second. I just keep walking past them put deep down it bothers me that I'm so different.
I push open the gym doors and see my two best friends sitting and talking amongst the crowd of other people. I step up to them.
"Dani! It's about time you showed up! We've been waiting to show you our trick!" My fire bender friend Vanessa tells me.
Her amber eyes light up in excitement at her new trick.
Taylor (water bender) speaks up "it wasn't really that hard to do but whatever." She says with a sarcastic tone.
I roll my eyes and smile. "Show me what you got." I laugh and sit next to Vanessa.
Vanessa holds out her palm and creates a small flame that hovers over her hand, flickering with heat.
Then Taylor does the same, but conjures a small blob of water and holds it above her palm.
They both move there element from their hand into midair, and force them to collide with each other, creating a satisfying hissing sound and causing steam to go everywhere.
Then Taylor moves her and up, and all the steam cools once more into water and sticks to her hand.
"Woah, that was awesome!" I exclaim.
"Let's see some of your elemental! That stuff amazes me." Taylor says.
I roll my eyes. "Fine."
I stick out my finger, and a burst of light comes out, floating in midair. "There." I cross my arms.
Taylor stares at it, and reaches out her hand toward it. And before I can stop her, she touches it.
"Ow!" She immediately pulls back her hand and stares at it.
I laugh. "You know you can't touch it!"
"I know! But it amazes me so much! And I kinda feel like a celebrity for being best friends with like, the only light bender." Taylor laughs.
"We should all hang out tonight! It would be so fun!" Vanessa chimes in out of nowhere.
"Ok, sure. six?" Taylor looks at Vanessa now.
"Good for me, what about you, Dani?" Vanessa playfully pokes me. I wave my hand and make the whisper of light disappear into thin air.
"Tis fine with me." I bow my head sarcastically and Vanessa laughs.

After a long half day of school, it's finally time for my favorite class. Elemental training.
This class takes place in a nearly indestructible dome, so that we can train safely.
I have that class with Vanessa and my guy friend, Aaron, who is an air bender. So naturally he has pale green eyes and dirty blonde hair, swooshed perfectly upward.
I find Aaron by the door leading outside of school like I always do.
"Are you ready for some elemental training, sunshine?" He nudged me playfully as we walk through the crowd of people.
Sunshine is his nickname for me. I guess it's because I'm a light bender.
"No, the question is, are YOU ready, wispy?" I nudge him back as we walk through the dome doors.
The gigantic open space and the smell of dirt fills my brain with every inhale, and take my sleepiness with it with every exhale. I am free for the short hour I am here.
"Ummm hello? Earth to Dani." Aaron waves his hand in front of my face and I snap out of my trance. Startled by the sudden commotion.
"Y-yeah, sorry. Where's Vanessa?""
"Right over there with everyone else."
We walk toward Vanessa and realize that everyone is gathered around the elemental training teacher.
I stand by Vanessa and listen to the teacher talk.
"Starting today, and carrying on for the next few weeks, we are going to be doing something different." Our teacher, Mrs. Wainser, presses her lips together.
"We are going to be doing an bending tournament, where you battle each other and see who comes out on top."
