Ivy was taking small steps, hands shaking. The meetup spot was a block away and she was extremely confused. What was actually happening? Where did they plan on going?

The trees came into view before her feet hit the grass. She bumped into one as she made her way in, barely noticing the bark harshly touching her clothes.

Milo was already at the huge tree, his own bag stuffed and resting on his shoulder. Ivy wasn't really sure what came over her but the moment she saw her best friend, she lost her footing and stumbled over to him.

Ivy could feel the glaze in her eyes and the tears starting to fall before she could even process being on the ground. When had they gotten here? Why did she feel so small in Milo's embrace. He was barely a few inches taller than her.

Despite being in a pretty blocked off area of the park, a lot closer to the deep woods than most dare to go, the two felt very exposed. Ivy still wasn't processing what was going on but she knew they had to move.

Milo was the first to stand up, offering his hand to Ivy and when she got up, didn't bother to let go. The woods were a good place to retreat to. They each knew the park like the back of their hands and had created a few maps of what they were certain the forest looked like. Their end destination however was a small abandoned building right outside the woods. Close to the park and other civilization but not enough to be spotted. A few construction problems with the concrete and soon there was a massive mound of in in the middle of what would have been a side alleyway if any other construction had continued.

Ivy almost collapsed again seeing the structure come into view. They hadn't been walking for very long but after the events of the day, she wasn't ready to go much further.

Eventually, Ivy started to put a bit more weight on Milo and he glanced over in concern. She looked just about ready to fall over so he offered to carry her the rest of the way. As expected, Ivy refused until Milo picked her up, bridal style and she couldn't find the energy to fight back.

He made it to the front door before carefully maneuvering both his now sleeping friend and two bags inside. He set the bags down closer to the middle of the room and set Ivy down on the couch. He pushed the bags closer to her so she would be able to grab them in case of an emergency and made his way to the second floor.

They had already visited the place many times before and without fail, never had a single intruder. So when Milo climbed the stairs to see a table, some chairs, another two couches and a person sitting crossed legged on the love seat furthest from the steps, he was very much not prepared. Thinking quickly, he pulled out his little silver cylinder and held it out in front of him like a weapon. The kid only laughed and spoke with immense confidence.

"I heard you come in. Watched you too. What do you even plan on doing with that?" He cocked his head and grinned. Milo only spared an unamused poker face.

"I plan to knock you unconscious with it if you try anything. Why are you here?" Milo spoke with a slight whisper. He didn't plan on waking up Ivy because when it came to dealing with people, she was a lot more intimidating which wasn't the best option right now.

"I found this place while wandering around. I didn't think anyone lived here, not anymore at least with the amount of dust on everything." The boy smiled as he looked around. He sunk into the couch a bit more, away from Milo, and let slip a small yawn. As far as Milo could tell, the boy wasn't armed with anything but had enough confidence that if he was, he wouldn't hesitate to use it.

Milo sighed and lowered his hands, the cylinder still in his right one, thumb over the button. He then walked back downstairs in silence leaving the curious child on his own for a few seconds. The boy almost got up and followed him but was too afraid to move as he didn't have anything to protect himself with.

Soon after the exhausted teen left, he was back this time with a blanket and pillow under his arm. He causally walked over to the kid on the couch as if they weren't just threatening each other a few seconds ago and sat the pillow down on one end of the bed. The boy gave it a strange glance and Milo only gestured for him to lay down. Before leaving, Milo put the blanket over him and walked away once more. The kid was out before his head fully hit the pillow.

The house was quiet with both his best friend and a random, cocky kid upstairs sleeping. The one thing he always hated about insomnia was how lonely it could get. That wasn't the problem tonight however. He started unpacking supplies from their bags putting food in the makeshift cabinets and setting the med kits on shelves and hanging from walls where they always sat. He took clothes and laid them in separate drawers taking his time to refold them. He even found a bag he didn't recognize upstairs and immediately assumed it was the kid's. He left that alone though.

Milo knew it would be difficult for him and Ivy to take care of and look out for another person but they weren't just going to kick him out. He really only seemed cocky and Milo was sure that if they left him in the woods he would just come back anyway.

_____
A/N- So I know I said this was going to be longer and technically it is by 300 words ish but whatever. Sorry for not updating sooner. To be fair I didn't know anyone was actually reading this book. We have a new friend! He will be introduced more in the next chapter.

Let me know if I get any facts wrong, it's revealed that Milo has insomnia but I don't so if I get something wrong let me know. Same with any other topics. Any other small writing errors too.
