i'm not very excited for this dare.
"c'mon wave! just tweet it already," dia, my online friend, groaned through my earbuds. dia lives across the atlantic and in the uk. we met through a mutual on twitter since we were both apart of stan twitter at one point; for different fandoms of course, but that didn't stop us from interacting with each other and becoming friends.
dia was always in some sort of video game fandom. minecraft, overwatch, undertale...she was always explaining new theories to me during those days and nights where we both got no sleep talking to each other. her love of gaming led her to actually become a streamer. she has a small, but mighty, fanbase and a viewership with around 100 viewers per stream. i've watched some of her streams, and honestly she fits the role of a streamer perfectly. dia is super funny and charismatic, and has that positive vibe which can bring anyone closer to her.
i, however, was never good at video games. i liked among us when it came out and still play occasionally, and i still enjoy a good minecraft survival world. i was more interested in music. i was mostly a one directioner, and still am, since i still listen to the old member's new music daily. however, i soon found myself drifting away from music stan twitter and into the world of fanart and commissions.
i was inspired to become an animator when i saw a simple yet popular animatic made for pride month. i loved how they could animate a simple movement of the arm so beautifully, and i wanted to try my hand at what looked very simple.
spoiler alert, it was not.
but, i never gave up, and soon my hard work paid off when one of my first animatics i posted on my channel blew up a few months ago and skyrocketed my social media following and public influence. the animatic was one of my best works, and i am glad that was the one that blew up. now, my youtube is home to 20k subscribers. my other socials like instagram and twitter have good following ratios as well, but i am most proud of the fanbase i created through youtube.
"ok, ok! i'm doing it!" i exclaimed as i finished typing the tweet on my laptop while dia watched me on facetime from my phone. dia clapped her hands together and started chanting 'do it'. i slowly moved my mouse down to the tweet button, but hesitated. dia and i had been doing truth or dare for the past hour now, but neither of us had gone as far to dare someone with tweeting out something embarrassing. especially on our public accounts.
"got cold feet?" dia giggled, thinking she would win and i would chicken out. i gritted my teeth and gently pressed down on my mouse, the page reloading to show my tweet at the top of my feed. i wanted to jump out the window.
dia was watching curiously, until she grabbed her own mouse to reload her twitter feed she must have pulled up in anticipation of my embarrassing tweet. her eyes widened as she saw my tweet on the feed, and let out a hearty laugh.
"no way! i didn't think you would actually do it!" i grabbed my phone and started pointing angrily towards the camera. "dia, i am not a chicken, but if this ruins my public influence or something i am gonna fly to the uk and personally beat your ass," i threatened dia, who leaned back in her chair and put up her hands lazily.
"alright, alright! but you gotta admit, it is pretty funny.." dia snickered. i rolled my eyes and looked back at the tweet;

"its not even true, this is fake news. oh my god where is tiktok room i'm cancelled-"
"hey! this was a good dare! like, you could actually gain more followers from the minecraft youtuber stans. now just make a really emotional animatic like sad-ist and BOOM; profit." dia explained, smiling like a maniac and her cheeks flushed.
i like minecraft, and i have nothing against the creators who have made a following off of it. i just never got into those types of creators, since i always thought watching someone else play the games i would rather try myself, boring. i don't keep up with the stans or the popular creators, but i respect both. i have gotten asked by a few subscribers to make animatics based off a few different minecraft youtubers, but i never looked into it before.
i do actually have a mutual following with the popular animator, sad-ist. i love their work, and their animatics, even if i don't understand them, inspired me to create more animatics with darker archetypes and emotional voiceovers. we have interacted once or twice before, and the mutual got me a few extra followers, too. but sad-ist really is a nice person who i look up to. i just don't keep up with whatever creators inspire her actual work.
i watched my notifs fill up, and mentally face palmed at the thought of what my followers and mutuals would say about me "simping". most of my followers also don't keep up with minecraft content creators, so most of the replies will probably just be question marks. i opened up my notifs;

the responses actually were not bad. people received the tweet well, and didn't make fun of me for it. dia and i read the replies out loud, some of them making us laugh. the tweet started gaining attraction, but dia still wouldn't let me reply to the tweet to explain how i am not a simp. instead, as soon as me and dia decided to hang up since i needed some sleep, dia replies to my tweet;

i sighed and plugged my phone in on my bedside table. as i got ready for bed, my phone continued to vibrate from notifications. i decided to just shut off my phone completely before crawling into bed. out of all my tweets, that one had to start blowing up? stan twitter sure is powerful alright, especially the minecraft stans.
hopefully this whole dare-tweet-thing wouldn't blow up in my face.
