"You can't be serious!" The princess shouted as she stormed across the throne room. "You must be a mad king father, especially if you think I'll go through with it willingly!"
The king had been expecting this from his daughter, as the youngest of the royal family she has always been given whatever it was she wanted, no matter what it was. She's never been forced to lift a finger or do a single thing she never wanted; until now.
He listened wordlessly as his diva daughter flung her best insults at him in an effort to change his mind. She was so furious when she came in that she still has not even realized that my father and I were in a private audience with the king before her interruption.
"I demand the marriage you promised! Jaxon Kensington is the only man I will willingly marry. You cannot go back on your word!" She exclaimed coming to a stop at the bottom of the steps leading to his throne.
I suppose even in a fit of rage she has some respect left for her father the king. At this point she notices us beside her.
"Sir Langston, Lady Nesrin." She greets us and bows briefly before turning back to her father. "I demand that you void the arrangement with Montecroix immediately, I refuse to leave until you do."
"Ah, Princess Eunoia, so nice of you to join us." Her father grinned, disregarding this childish tantrum. "Captain Langston and I were just discussing the security arrangements for your coming out ball tonight. Miss Nesrin has been appointed your personal attendant for the occasion, just as you requested."
My father bowed to the king, sensing the urgency of finishing the conversation so the Princess could have an audience alone with her father, and I followed his example. We know as well as the king that this marriage is not something he can afford bend for the Princess.
"You will be well guarded and protected at the ball your highness, please rest assured my men will guard you with their lives or die trying." My father bowed to the Princess as well.
"Thank you captain, I put my life in your capable hands and the hands of your men." She spoke quickly and bowed back.
"Please excuse us your highness," my father took my hand. "Please rest assured that the arrangements are all in order for this evening. Thank you for your time."
"Yes, thank you Captain. I must speak privately with my daughter." He said, his gaze directed at Eunoia was not a particularly pleased one.
"Yes of course, thank you for your time, your majesty." My father replied as we left the room.
When we were far enough away from the throne room we chuckled together. "The king will talk sense into her." He smiled.
"I certainly hope so." I rolled my eyes. "There are very few people who can actually achieve such endeavors." I giggled a little. "I'm her best friend and she barely listens to me."
He chuckled at that, "that's true. She is quite the headstrong princess, very stubborn; just like someone else I know." He raises one brow at me and I laugh.
"Sure, I can be stubborn sometimes, but I'm nowhere near as stubborn or headstrong as she is." I defended myself bumping into his arm slightly.
"Whatever you say Nesrin." He stopped walking as we reached the entrance to the courtyard. "It's time for you to head home, your mother is expecting you and I have more work to do here."
I frowned. Training for today ended with our audience with the king, I hate this part of the day and I'm never ready for it.
"Don't worry, you'll be back here before you know it. You're the princess's official attendant for the evening so you've got to go get ready for it. It'll be your first ball and hers too, you have to look your best." He placed a hand on my shoulder. "Everyone in the kingdom will be present, it's just as much a coming out ball for you as it is for her."
