Another average day, I stood outside of Poe's house waiting for them to come out. Poe is always late, what could they be doing in there? I look into the window and see Poe half asleep looking out. As soon as she saw me there was a look of surprise.
"Poe! It's 7:30! We're gonna be late!"
I always walked to school with Poe, and Poe usually almost made us late. But that didn't matter, I waited. Poe finally came out at 7:40 and we rushed to the school. This time usually doesn't have traffic so the walk to the school would've been smooth. Except, today, there was traffic. So it took us an extra 6 minutes to get to school. It was 8:04 when we got to school, so we were late.
Period 1, we got in trouble for being late. We sat down and waited for class to commence. I stared out the window, it was something I already learned. Poe seemed very bored too, I already taught them this last year. We were 1 year ahead and said nothing about it. I knew Poe was smarter then me, but we both knew different things and taught each other.
"Sasha, could you tell us the answer to question 4?"
I look down, then to my paper.
'What is Pangea?'
Well, Pangea is the idea that all the continents used to be 1. Then the tectonic plates moved them. Over millions of years they began to spread, making the current earth. Even though I knew, I stayed silent. Poe looked over. It was obvious she wasn't that happy, since she knew that I knew.
"I guess that means you don't know. Jake, would you tell us?"
Jake was this really jerky boy who made fun of everybody except the ones he considers 'cool'. I was not considered 'cool'. But, he was every teachers favorite kid. He seems like a sweet nice kid, occasionally a 'Chad', but I reality he really wasn't. Jake described Pangea and looked at me then made a face. I just went back to look outside.
Period 2, math. Nothing interesting, just.. math. Well, math was my favorite and the teacher was the most understanding. In fact, he even called me 'Ash', my preferred name after coming out as Non-Binary. The class wasn't a boring math class either, it was fun. Poe was in it as well, so that's amazing.
Lunch. A 30 minute break from everything. I enjoyed lunch, sitting under my favorite cherry blossom tree with Poe. We both ate a bento box with rice, teriyaki chicken, and broccoli. Well, I did make Poe lunch everyday. She's a very clumsy cook, and I do have to make them food. The expression on her face showed she enjoyed it.
"Ash~ you're so good at making food~" they said with a muffled mouth full of food.
"My cooking skills are nothing compared to your intelligence."
"Ashhhhh," Poe said swallowing the food. "Stop talking bad about yourself!"
The rest of lunch went by as usual. Jake passed by and made a face before leaving to go with his friends, Poe and I had a conversation, today we talked about the ingredients used for conditioner. We have the weirdest conversations, but that's what I like about them.
I would do anything, and I mean ANYTHING, for Poe. Poe is my best friend, and without them, I'm nothing. I wouldn't be going to school everyday, I wouldn't be out of bed, I wouldn't be eating and making food, I'd be doing nothing productive. But Poe was always there, helping me. Without Poe, I wouldn't be here. And maybe, with Poe, I won't be here. The world is a strange place, It does strange things to mankind. Maybe that's why I think the reason I'm here is because of Poe, and the reason I won't be here anymore is because of Poe.
