The sun was just the right amount of sunny that day. Everything was expected to go well. The cottage was in the middle of a village-which was nowhere, the yard of the cottage was surrounded by thick forests, placed near the outskirts of the village and leading practically nowhere. The nights were too cold and the mornings were too hot. The smell of dew was heavy and no one would have known something was wrong until there was series of loud banging down the echoing hallway. The door which was being banged on was located in the second floor hallway.

John came out from his room across the door. He was quiet tall and had a lean physique but was quite strong. It was a surprise that he had ended up in this group. He headed for the second floor which was right above him.

Cody had been repetitively kicking the door. Maria and Suzie stood behind him. Maria, with her raven black hair in two plaits, was pacing near the door. Suzie was as nonchalant as she always was. She was leaning on the wall as she sucked on her never-ending store of lollipop. Norman and Rose were nowhere to be seen.

Maria saw John approaching. "Lily didn't return to our room last night. Seems like the same happened with Cassie because her bed looks like it hasn't been slept in." she said, "We checked everywhere but only this room is locked. God knows what they are doing inside."

"Wasn't this the store room?" John asked.

"Yes" Cody answered. Norman and Rose are still nowhere to be seen.

"It was unlocked the first time we checked." John continued. He had an excellent memory, one of the reason why he is an honour student and the physique makes him the swim team president. Cody threw his body this time against the door. The door made a loud noise but didn't open.

"The room is very dusty. There is a possibility of them fainting inside." Maria said. Her plaits made a swishing sound as they cut through the air whenever she turned.

"Let me do it." John said.

Bang. The door didn't open.

"This girl. I don't know what she had in that little brain of hers when she decided to lock herself inside the store room." John inaudibly mumbled to himself.

Once again he threw his body and Cody kicked with full strength on the door. It must have been the joint efforts or the small fruits of the useless throwing against the door that the door finally opened. John went flying into the room while Cody supported himself with a pillar.

As soon as the door opened, you could smell the pungent smell to the end of the hallway. Stunned silence lay like a heavy blanket on the atmosphere. It was electrifying and revolting at the same time. Then a very ghoulish scream followed as it cut through the atmosphere. Cody was screaming in an unrecognisable high-pitched voice. Maria had stopped pacing and was staring, shocked into the room.

"NO! NO!" Cody continued screaming. The girls didn't seem to utter a single word. Suzie's annoying lollipop had been discarded to the ground into a broken mess.

"NO!" Cody says in a human voice at last, "This can't happen...it can't. They can't....they can't be DEAD!"

As on que, John exits the room. His faded brown shirt is now covered with blood. His hands and knees are painted in red as well. It seems like he ended up tripping into the bloody mess. Somewhere Maria stumbles as she steps back. The not-so-inconsiderate Suzie catches her. The pungent smell might be weighing on her. If I had to smell it further more closely, I had been displeased as well. But the small group of four teenagers was quite shocked. Cody's emotions plain on his face. Suzie trying to stay strong. Maria's thoughts are askew. And John...John had a subtle poker expression...without a single crack.

And so, one perfectly beautiful day, when the sun was just right amount of sunny, the smell of dew and greens was mixed with flesh and blood in the cottage which was in the middle of nowhere, surrounded by thick forests near village which was practically nowhere. At 45 minutes past noon, two bodies of high-schoolers were found drenched in blood in the cottage's store room. Both were girls, namely Cassie and Lily, who had been on a business trip with their fellow club mates. The bodies were quiet in the silent, dusty store room which had no windows and was locked from inside on a bright sunny day.
