Underneath the Tree (Pt. 1)

After my mom and dad got separated, I did nothing but look for jobs. Online or not. Just like today, I'm still staring at my laptop for hours looking for a possible job online. 

It's already afternoon when I noticed my eyes are getting tired, I have to make supper soon or else my mom will probably tell me I'll get sick staring at my gadgets for too long. (Typical mom haha)

My name is Tessa, Tessa Lou Nica O. Garcia, INFP-T ako. Born on October 31, 1996. It's December the first and I'm anxious to have a job again soon. 

I only got my mom, my dad already have a family somewhere in his province. I don't bother looking at their photos on Holidays 'cause it will make me feel sick. Ugh! 

 'Ma! Labas lang ako saglit. Nakalimutan ko bumili ng grocery.'  I said while changing my pyjamas into pants. I immediately grab for my keys on my bedside table. 

My room is not that big but I have mini collection of miniatures from my favorite movies and TV series. You can tell that I prefer having alone time than hanging out with my friends. I know. 

I'm almost at my door when I saw my mom standing outside. 

'Tessa, wala na ata akong gamot. Pasuyo ako, daanan mo na lang eto reseta.'  She said while trying not to cough to hide her illness. She's a cancer survivor, when I was 10 years old she's diagnosed. Lung cancer, she survived it. But right now, I don't know what happened. Her doctor said the cancer cells is spreading again. She had to take medicines again... and chemo. 

I sighed. Eto na naman ulit. This time I have to do it alone. 

'Yes ma, mag-grocery na rin ako.'  Ang hirap mag-isa. I thought while making my way to my car. This and our house is the only property we have, at least my father left something for us. 

I have to make a lot of money now, not two jobs but at least one that is decent enough to make my mom have her chemo and proper medicines. 

I arrived in the parking lot of SM and stopped the engine got out of the car when my phone beep.

It matches my skills so, why not? I'm on my way to the elevator when I bumped into someone. 

'Sorry' I said, seems like he's on call and doesn't even bother to look at me. 

I grabbed everything else we need and made my way to pharmacy to buy my mom's medicines. While waiting for the pharmacist, I overheard someone talking beside me. It's the guy I bumped earlier, I noticed his shirt and jacket. He seems tired and sleepy. Despite his state, he still looks young. Taller than me, I'm 5'2 by the way. Yeah I know average Filipino height. 

'Yes, yes... I will check on their applications later. I know, I'm on my way don't worry. Bibili lang ako ng kailangan ko... Make sure to check if they're working. I know that, that's why I'm looking for an assistant right now. Fine, I'll call you later.'

He reciprocate my stare when he noticed I'm looking at him. I can't help it he looks familiar to me or that's what I thought. His shirt says F.R.I.E.N.D.S maybe that's why. I'm a huge fan of that TV show, or was. 

I met someone when I was a kid, we used to marathon that show (even though our parents told us it's too old for us to watch) and play outside our houses. 

His name is Mike ,  my childhood sweetheart. Or so I thought before I got tired of life. Mike or Miecyzslaw made my childhood life happy. He's been my anchor when my mom got really sick.

It's like having him in my life in that stage is home. I can finally rest whenever I'm with him. He made me feel safe.
