Hi. I'm Melanie Rocket, and today, I'm setting off on the biggest adventure I have ever been on. Now that I've graduated from college, I'm furthering my education and travelling across the country to Manchester for university. I've always loved science, especially biology. I'm not exactly into the arts. I can't act, I rarely finish a novel, I scraped a Pass in English and as for singing? Well, it goes about as far as the shower. Science is the only subject I seem to do well in. In fact, I excel in Biology and Chemistry. Therefore, I've decided to study Medicine. I want to get a degree in Medicine, possibly specialise in a certain medical area, get a job and be good at it. Basically, I don't want to be like my parents. They met at a night club, had a one night stand, and then there was me. Of course my biological father was never seen again. As for my mum? She didn't like me much. To distract herself from the fact that she had a child, she went out almost every night, bringing home a new 'dad' each week. And then, when social services finally kicked in, I moved in with my grandparents, and mum ran away with some boyfriend to Portugal. I felt like my life was finally beginning. I'm glad my mum and dad left me. If they hadn't, I would probably still be living with them working at the corner shop for the rest of my life. Now I have the confidence to go anywhere and do anything I want without them bothering me!
I get on the train taking me to Manchester, buy an americano and sit down next to a guy about my age with dirty blond hair styled with gel and cut short. Hes wearing a tight sports top and jeans. I suppose some people would find him attractive, if you're into the Ken and Barbies look. Well, he looks more like Caspar Lee. He pulls out a leaflet from his backpack, titled, "Queen University, Manchester". That's where I'm going!
"Oh! You're going to Queen's? So am I! Oh, I'm Melanie, by the way. Melanie Rocket.
Caspar Lee grins at me with flashy white teeth. "Nice to meet you Melanie By The Way Rocket. I'm Peter Close. What are you studying?"
"Medicine. What about you?"
"Physics," he replies.
"Physics?!"
He chuckles. "Yeah, why do you sound so surprised?"
I flush with embarrassment and look down at the ground. "No reason, it's just... You don't look like the type of person to study Physics. You struck me as more of a Phys Ed or Business Studies student, if you know what I mean."
Thankfully, he laughs and I laugh with him. We talk for the rest of the journey, and by the time we get off the train, it would seem like we'd known each other for years...Edited by: TheStuffedCrust
