University

After taking a few wrong turns and our bus getting stuck in traffic for twenty minutes, Peter and I finally arrive at the university. It's an old building, made of red brick. I'm sure it looks really nice in the summer, but, to be honest, it looks pretty ugly in the dull and rainy weather. It's raining cats and dogs. One minor comfort is that Peter looks just as nervous as me. A middle-aged man in a grey suit carrying a clipboard appears from the front door, smiling at us both. He walks towards us.
"Ah, latecomers?"
Peter and I nod shyly. I'm positive I look like a beetroot right now. I made such a bad impression. He brought us into the huge atrium.
"Now, since you're late, there won't be much point interrupting the speech where everyone else who is new is. I'll show you to your rooms instead. You'll each have one roommate. So, names please!"
"Peter Close."
"Peter... Close..." he mumbles as he searches the clipboard. "Okay! And...?"
"Melanie Rocket."
"Melanie... Rocket... Right! I'm Professor Mason, I teach English, but I'm guessing I don't have you two as you're both studying the sciences. Melanie, here's your room key, room 204! And Peter, here is yours, room 341." Melanie's room is closest from here, so we'll drop you off first. Need help with the bags?"
I nod and he takes some things from me. We make small talk with the professor as he walks with us to my room. We arrive there in two minutes. Professor Mason wishes me luck and says I'll fit right in at the university, don't worry, and Peter grins and follows the professor to his own room.

I must be sharing my room with a newbie as well, as the room shows no sign of personality. It's walls are neutral and the floor is wooden. There are clean white sheets on the two single beds and the wardrobes are empty. I check the notice board hanging on the wall. There's a sheet pinned there, with the housekeeping and dorm rules, and the names of the girls on my floor and who their roommate is. My roommate is a girl called Scarlet Creevey. I guess I may as well start making the place a bit more homely for Scarlet and I. I change my bedsheets and put some posters and decorations up around the room. We don't have our own bathroom, there's a public one for each floor, so there's no need to put any shampoo or makeup in the bathroom. We have a small fridge, a sink and a few cupboards, and I put some packets of biscuits, a box of teabags, a jar of coffee granules and a tub of sugar in the cupboards and milk in the fridge, in case we fancy a cup of tea or coffee. I line up some of the books I brought with me on the shelves and after unpacking some of my clothes, I finally lie down on my bed. This is probably one of the only times I will get peace and quiet here, so I may as well make the most of it. However, after five minutes or so, I hear the door open. My roommate, Scarlet!
