Two years passed quickly. Ruby was 6 and in school. She was a very bright kid beyond her age. I knew when she was born she was going to do wonderful things and she was even at such a young age. Elliot now aged 18 and moved into a place with Conner and had taken his beloved pet with him. The house without Asha seemed very sad and lonely. The husky dog had brought such light to the house I considered getting another dog.

My job was going great, I knew we had a new girl starting soon. I didn't know anything about her except she was going to be in the kitchen. I was deep in thought about my marriage, it had been a little rocky lately since Elliot had moved out. I walked in through the kitchen and ran into someone stumbling, "sorry..." I said, looking , focusing my eyes on a girl. A very very pretty Kenku. All the breath in my lungs was squeezed out of me looking at her, "its ok," her voice was like silk. I just stared for a few moments before I could speak, "I'm Marsden the head cook." She smiled, "I'm Charlotte. You can call me Charlie. I'm the new assistant cook," I melted at her voice and her looks.

She was maybe 30 slender, with blue feathers and the brightest green eyes I had ever seen. She reminded me a lot of Elora when we were younger. I swore to myself. I wanted her in my arms. I didn't know why but the attraction to her was gravity pulling me to her. She went to a little corner in the kitchen and started to prepare the lunch for the day. I tried to focus but I ended up just looking over my shoulder at her. She was so just beautiful, "Sooo, tell me about yourself," I wasn't able to stop the words coming out from my mouth. I regretted the choice to ask. I was scared to get too close to her.

We talked the whole rest of the day about our lives. The good and the bad. She was the youngest of 6 kids and was the only girl, not married and had two dogs at home. I had scanned her hand for a ring and in fact was not wearing any rings. The whole day seemed to just fly by with Charlie in the kitchen. And before long I found myself walking home alone. I wanted to be with her.

I wasn't sure why, and I knew it was wrong. I walked in through the front door and Ruby jumped into my arms talking quickly about what she had done at school. About snacks and coloring and all sorts of things very interesting to a kid. Less so to an adult. I put her down and gave her mother a kiss. A knot in my stomach yelled at me but I ignored it as I talked to her, before going to my study Elora followed me, "Love are you ok?" she asked. I nodded telling her it was just a long day and I had a few plates sent back into the kitchen at dinner and that I loved her. She gave me a kiss, "it'll be better tomorrow," she left and I spent the rest of the night just writing my feelings and trying to make things make sense. But nothing felt right and I just didn't know why.

Telling Elora I loved her tore my heart cause it felt like lying, but it wasn't a lie. I just wasn't sure where we were. She had been very angry and irritable since Elliot had left. We had gotten into so many fights. I locked myself into my office and tried to wait out the grey storm cloud that was hanging over us but it just seemed like it was never going to end. Charlie was a breath of fresh air, she was a very happy go lucky person.

With everything she had gone through she was still just as happy as could be. Overcome every beat down with a sense of pride. She was a very strong girl and I wondered if that was why I wanted her so badly. Just a completely new energy. Weeks passed and I grew closer to Carlie and every day. It felt like I had known her for years and could talk to her about anything and everything. She was like an old friend, "my wife is going out of town this week. She left this morning." Charlie spun around to look at me, "oh?" The words and look on her face were very suggestive.

My heart was beating hard, "would you like some company?" she asked and without missing a beat I said yes. A part of me hoped that perhaps it would stop any want of having her in my bed. I led Charlie to the house after work. My heart pounding even harder and faster then it had when she had asked. She was impressed by the house. Two story 4 bedroom with a study and a kitchen. She was impressed that an old pirate like me, from a tiny village could settle so well into the city. I laughed and agreed with her. I made dinner. Admittedly I was so distracted it could have been better, but she still seemed to like the food. We did play cards and drank until I was thoroughly drunk and I took her up to our room and threw her playfully onto the bed.
