gracie's pov:
"anyways, enough about my drama. betty, you were saying something?" veronica said.
"yeah, just that mr jones told me jughead has never had a birthday party. let's have one for him! like, a lowkey surprise party."
"no." i shook my head. "jughead doesn't like his birthday."
"everybody says that— no one means it." kevin scoffed.
"no. seriously. he's my brother, i think i know a thing or two. and jug doesn't like surprises, nor parties, nor his birthday."
"okay, ignoring the negativity and insularity..." veronica began. "betty, you know me— any excuse to wear a cute party dress." she gushed. "okay, so i'm thinking 'quaint gathering'. inner circle only."
i rolled my eyes and picked at my mac and cheese with my fork. "unbelievable."
"oh my god..." kevin's jaw dropped. "don't turn around."
but of course, we all did. chuck clayton strolled into the cafeteria.
"holy, chuck. i think his lats got bigger— not that i care... he's evil incarnate."
"what is chuck doing back?" i asked, clenching my fists.
"he got suspended, not expelled. even though he should've been drawn and quartered."
betty got up from the table and marched towards clayton, a look of salient ferocity plastered on her face.
"oh god..."

"what was he doing? accosting her?" veronica asked betty, once she turned from where chuck and ethel were sat.
"no... he was— apologising?" betty sounded surprised.
"oh, i'm so sure." ronnie said sarcastically. "chuck clayton doesn't have a contrite bone in his muscle-bound body."
"can we talk about something else? like jughead's surprise party? there's a lot i can't do, but and want to make sure my boyfriend has the best birthday ever." the blonde smiled thoughtfully.
i huffed and rubbed my temples.
this could only end badly.~♛~
