Brooklyn leaned over the railing in front of the ocean. There was something, something that caught her eye, but she didn't know what it was. With all of the peaceful things around her, it was heard to focus on one thing for long. "Hey beautiful," a voice said from behind her. It was Colten, her boyfriend of 2 years. "Oh, hey babe, you scared me a bit." Brooklyn said
On the walk home Brooklyn held Colten's hand, extra tightly, for she is very precautious of her surroundings. Colten just smiled, relaxed and comfortable, clueless of his girlfriends fear. "Babe, do you ever look in a mirror and see the beauty of your face? Seen the sparkle in your eye? How about the shine of your pearly white teeth? Because when I look at you that's all I see." Colten said.
"Actually babe, when I look in a mirror I see fear, I see a girl who is afraid to show her inner self. I see someone who is abnormal, someone that is different. I see a person who is the talk of the town, I see me." Brooklyn cried, letting out a sigh of relief. "Brooklyn, why didn't you tell me you felt this way? I might be able to help you. I can pull you out of this dark hole your in." Colten replied sympathetically. Brooklyn fought back the tears, and flashed a small grin towards Colten.
The couple went to sleep that night. Brooklyn still feeling the fear she felt every night, but tonight she felt a little more safety than ever before. Perhaps this was because Colten knew how she felt now. "Babe? Are you awake?" Colten asked. "Barely." Brooklyn replied, after a few moments of silence. "I have to ask you something, but I don't know if it's the correct time thing to ask you at such a hard time in life." Colten said, rubbing his eyes. Brooklyn sat up in bed. "Ok, I guess you could go ahead and ask me, and if I'm not ready to answer it, I'll wait." she said. Colten grabbed Brooklyn's hands and said, "Why didn't you tell me you were feeling the way you are? I feel like you don't trust me. If you did, you would have told me and let me help you fight this battle, but you didn't."
Brooklyn started to sob. "I.. I.. I just thought that it was too much to put on you. It's my problem. I didn't want you to think I was trying to push it all on you. You are the perfect man, and I don't want to risk losing you. You are the best thing that has ever happened to me, no joke." Brooklyn replied, tears streaming down her face. "No! It's nothing like that! I am your boyfriend. I am here for you when you need me. I am your partner in crime, your soul mate. You are supposed to tell me this stuff. I would've never thought that you were trying to push it all on me. I would've gotten the impression that you were trying to seek help and I was the person whom you thought had the answer." Colten gasped. Brooklyn smiled, looking into Colten's baby blue eyes. "Ok, well now that you know how I feel about my self AND why I didn't tell you, can I go back to sleep now?" Brooklyn yawned. "Yes, I'm right with ya." Colten said.
