"Joshua! You have to think about your future!" Dad yelled.

"What if music is my future!" I yelled back. Again, day after day, he never thinks about me, only what he wants me to be.

"Don't yell at your father." Mom said with that stern voice of hers.

"I'm just proving a point. I mean, he doesn't know the future. I could become a successful musician, but if he makes me do something I don't want to do, then how am I suppose to live life? I'll live life miserable because I wouldn't have known what could've happend if I did what I wanted."

"I won't make you do anything, you'll  always have that choice." He said.

"Look, all we're saying is you need to stray away from music and focus on academics."

I rolled my eyes.

"Don't roll your eyes! You hear me, don't!" My father yelled and then started to go on about school and other nonsense that I didn't seem to care about.

I needed to leave, get out for awhile. I turned and walked out the door heading to my car when a voice caught my attention.

"Where are you heading, Mr.Matthews?" Mr.Feeny always seemed to be there.

"I just need to get away." I responded.

"In my many years I know that running away cannot always solve the problem."

"You can't convince me not to run away." I told him.

"I'm not trying to. I'm just saying that no matter where you go the problem is always there, no matter who you are." Mr.Feeny always said these things that I never understood, but somehow made sense.

I started the car and drove off. I didn't know where I was going but that didn't seem to matter right now.

It's  about 10 o'clock and somehow I've made it to my brother's house. Since Riley's window is always open I come through that since the door is probably locked at this time of night.

Riley moves a little when I close the window.

"Hey Riley." I whisper.

"Hey Josh. What are you doing here?""

"I needed to get away." She knew what this meant. I had done this so many times it was programmed in her head.

"Goodnight." She said.

"Goodnight." I replied.

I walked down the hall and got some blankets and pillow then I made my way to the living room.

A figure was sitting by the window with a drawing book.

"Maya?" I whispered.

"Josh?" She whispered. For the first time since we had met, her cheeks weren't red and she wasn't nervous.

"What are you doing here?" She asked.

"Oh, I just needed to get away." I replied. The moonlight seemed to compliment her eyes.

"Oh." She said with some disappointment.

"What are you drawing?" I asked starting to grab her notebook. She pulled it away.

"It's not for anyone to see." She said closing it.

"Why is that?"

"I don't know, it's just not." She said. Before she could do much of anything, except breathe, I grabbed her book. She tried to get it back, but I was to tall for her to reach.

I flipped through a few pages until I found one of the park across the street. It was beautifully drawn. Every line and shade seemed to fit together like a puzzle. Except it was better than a puzzle, it was a masterpiece.

"Woah..." I said before she snatched it away.

"I told you not to look." She said.

"That was beautiful." I said. That got a smile out of her.

"You don't have to lie for me. We aren't even family." I wanted to say you don't have to be blood to be family, but I figured that would be like friend zoning her, which is not at all what I wanted to do.

"I only speak the truth, my love." Oh crap. I should probably stop before I say something embarrassing.

"Well, thanm you." She said.

"Why don't you want to show people?" I asked her.

"My art is for me and only me to see." She said.

"Too bad it's quite beautiful, like you." I said.

"I should go to sleep." She said.

"Wait, do you want to hear a poem from our favorite book?" I asked her.

"What makes you so sure it's my favorite book?" She asked.

"Maya, I can read you like a poem. You clearly like that book. And besides, there's a copy if the book over in the bookshelf, that I'm sure you put there."

"Okay... I suppose you could read a poem." She said. I walked over and picked up the hardcover golden paged book.

"Let's go sit on the couch." I said. She followed behind me as I walked to the couch. She sat next to me, only inches apart.

I turned to a random page and started to read it to her:
"She was the sun so beautiful and important
He was the moon so dark and often went unnoticed
They loved eachother
But whether they realized this or not,
They needed eachother
But it was forbidden due to their distance between eachother
As day went on and on, they never forgot about eachother
They never would"

Somehow we ended up asleep on the couch, cuddling together. She looked so peaceful asleep, so beautiful. Which is why it pained me to wake her up. I had to because if we were caught like this in the morning, I would be in much more trouble.

"Maya, you have to go now." I whispered.

"No..." She said in a sleepy voice. I decided it was best to carry her to Riley's room. I set her down on the bed next to Riley with a blanket and her notebook was under her pillow so no one else could see it without her knowledge.

I walked back to the living room and fell asleep, not thinking about what would happen tomorrow or next week or any time from now.

All I knew was there was this girl, and I was slowly falling for her.
