Carol watched her girlfriend careful survey the room, anxiously awaiting her opinion on the restaurant. She knew it wasn't her scene, it wasn't really Carol's either - but she was determined to show Valkyrie a little more of Earth, especially as it was her new home.
The couple sat in a restaurant that Carol had heard had good reviews and looking at the prices of the dishes she hoped they were right.
Both space gays wore their special-occasion-clothes to fit in with the crowd but Carol didn't care for anyone's opinions except Valkyrie's - the night was about her after all.
They had ordered their food and sipped on their wine (that Valkyrie clearly disliked so now had a beer) while the smaller woman kept asking about where they would go after the meal.
Carol had told Valkyrie that they would take a walk yet the Asgardian warrior - not understanding the Earth ways - was insistent on knowing where they would go and the purpose of the walk.
Carol simply roled her eyes at her girlfriend and smiled at the unique personality, hoping that when she eventually figured out the gist of Earth life she wouldn't change her nature. It was good to always ask questions, there was always things to learn.
When the waiter arrived with the food, Valkyrie was momentarily startled by the man's sudden appearance and Carol was very glad she had managed to persuade Valkyrie to leave her knives at home.
Carol thanked the waiter before he hurried off to attend to other tables, leaving the two to assess the event.
Valkyrie suspiciously stares down at her stake, as though daring it to confess it had been poisoned while the blonde watched her with a smile.
"Not used to eating meat you haven't hunted yourself?" Carol half joked.
"Valkyrie's weren't hunters! They were warriors!" Valkyrie said defensively yet with pride on the last word.
"So? Hunting is a key part of survival. You can hardly be expected to protect others if you can't take care of yourself." Carol stated as she took a bite of her meal, encouraging Valkyrie to do the same.
"Do they teach you to learn to hunt in the airwarriors?" Valkyrie asked seriously, making Carol smile. She always showed an interest in the things she didn't understand. The captain wondered how much of that was natural curiosity or from her ancient training.
"Air force. And no, that's not really how earth works."
"Earth is very confusing...And strange." Valkyrie said, pondering on her girlfriend's statement.
"It is. But you'll learn - with my help of course." Carol grinned confidently making Valkyrie smile back. "How is it?" Carol asked, gesturing to Valkyrie's meal.
"Not poisoned." Valkyrie stated and Carol held back a laugh.
"Does it taste good?" Valkyrie thought about it as she chewed.
"It does." She concluded.
Carol smiled triumphantly and the two started talking about their work and personal lives. It was often hard to determine where one ended and the other began, but the couple always knew that they would set aside time for each other.
It wasn't that common for them to get alone time, so when they did they were determined to make it worth while, leading to the idea and events of that date.
Once the pair had finished their meal Carol paid, much to Valkyrie's disapproval, and left the restaurant to face a cool, Autumn night.
Carol took Valkyrie's hand in her own, always finding that they fitted together like two pieces of a puzzle, and led her down the city street.
It wasn't as busy as Carol guessed it would be, making her occasionally swing Valkyrie's arms happily as they strolled past all the other busy restaurants and shops, giving the blonde the idea to take the smaller woman shopping sometime.
Where even is the nearest knife shop? I'll have to look that up.
Eventually the pair arrived at what Valkyrie assumed was a park, the darkness making it difficult to tell.
There were small oak trees bordering a lush green grass that looked as though it had been treated everyday to keep up it's prestigious appearance. Below the trees were the yellow and orange leaves showing the time of year, making Carol decide she would insist to Fury that she have Halloween off aswell.
When the captain glanced at the warrior she was thrilled to see that she was evidently admiring the scenery. Carol pulled lightly on her hand to bring her attention back to the blonde and guided her to the tree line.
"So the people of Earth buy food for their partners then take them on walks through the park at night?" Valkyrie asked as she watched the leaves crunch underfoot.
"Isn't that what happens on Asgard?" Carol inquired.
"We don't pay for food, everything is shared so everyone survives." Valkyrie recalled proudly. "And my dates were more like one-on-one training sessions."
"What about Sakaar?"
"You pay for food there. But I never went on dates so I wouldn't know about that." Carol nodded in understandment as they continued walking, the sound of the leaves filling the comfortable silence.
Now Valkyrie was a thousands of years old warrior goddess and Carol was a superhuman; neither of them ever really felt the cold. Alas, Carol shrugged off her blazer jacket and placed it gently on Valkyrie's shoulders, instantly admiring the site.
Valkyrie arched an eyebrow in confusion at the act and Carol just shrugged. "It's an earth thing." She said simply.
Their path gradually started to slant and Valkyrie realised they were walking up a hill. The trees become less untill the pair were walking across an open field.
Once they reached the top of the hill Valkyrie found her breathe getting caught in her throat.
The two fighters looked out at the city below the in awe of it. The lights from the building twinkled with night time activity along with the faint hum of traffic.
Against the black backdrop, the city looked mesmerizing and beautiful beyond words. All the buildings were different shapes and sizes with different shades of light emitted from the small windows that looked like dots. No two were the same.
"It's definetly not the best planet in the galaxy." Carol admitted. "But it has some good views."
"And good people." Valkyrie smiled, tearing her gaze away from the city to look at her girlfriend lovingly.
"Do you like it?" Carol asked, gesturing to the city, the act seemingly becoming a habit.
"I love it." Valkyrie smiled and wrapped her arms around Carol's neck to pull their faces closer together.
Both thought they could never grow tired of the kisses they shared, everyone one feeling more special than the last.
"I'm glad, next week I'll take you to get I've cream."
"What's ice cream?"
