"Heroes suck."

"What are you talking about mummy? Heroes make the story."

"No, villains make the story by causing the problems. Heroes just die in the end. They wreck themselves over bad things that happen, the people they couldn't save. Villains say screw that and keep living the way they want to. Nothing to ruin themselves over."

"But mum, the hero the still a part of the story. They make sure the villain isn't bored."

"That may be so darling. But promise me one thing, never become a hero. It'll ruin you."

"What if I want to be a hero?"

"Don't be a hero my child, you can help the world and not be a hero. But heroes always die in the end. Don't be a hero, don't make friends with heroes. Do you understand?"

"Yes mummy."

--- 2 years later ---

"Mum, I'm scared."

"Don't be darling, they can't reach us in here."

"Are you sure? The door looks like it's about to crack."

"Oh, it does. Listen, go out the back and run, take your sister with you. Don't stop no matter what you hear, keep running. Get somewhere safe, I'll find you. And remember, don't be or make friends with heroes. They will only hurt you. But most of all, never fall for a hero. Always protect your brother, that is all I ask of you."

"Ok, I love you."

"I love you to, now run! I will find you, no matter how far."

With that, she took her brother from her mothers arms and ran. She ignored the sounds behind her. Tried to ignore her mother pleading. That was the scariest thing she heard that night. Her mother never pleaded. It was then she realised.

She wasn't going to see her mother again.

They would kill her, or worse, capture her and hurt her. Either way she would end up dead. And Ayah would never see her mother again. It was then that she made a vow that would she would stick by forever.

You took my family once.

Now you will lose yours a thousand times.

But first, she had to help her brother.
