Running. That was the only thing on Luna's mind. Running. Away. Away from everything she ever knew. Everything she did and didn't like. And there wasn't much she could do. She had no other family. All but her mother. But she didn't know where she even lived. Only her father's house. But she didn't want to be there. Not anymore. He was too much to handle anymore. The only thing she took was her doll, the one her mother gave her, a blanket, a medical supply kit, a knife, and food that'll hopefully last her a full week. She needed the medical kit. Due to what her own father did to her eye. Which is still bleeding from earlier. And it'll need treatment for a little while longer. She doesn't remember much of her mother, nor what she looks like. But she does remember the medical lessons her mother gave her. Small little advice to do whenever injured. It happened often whenever she was allowed outside back then. She still remembers most of the advice by heart now that she did them so often. Nearly everyday of her life. But right now, her life was nearly at steak. She needed to get as far from her so-called "home" as possible. But then she remembered, her own neighbors were nearly 3 miles away. Such a pleasant memory. But she kept running anyway. She couldn't walk or run on the road cause then she'll be caught. That's the last thing she needed. So her best option was through the forests. She's only been as far as her neighbors, but knowing him with his own knowledge of her, he would think that she was heading for the neighbors. Or somewhere close by. She knew one shed very close by, but she wasn't sure if he knew about it.
Then something tugged her neck. The necklace. The one her mother gave her before she left. Her mother always had strange belongings. But this one in particular was the strangest thing she ever owned. And she never gave anything away easily. The necklace had beautiful black beads almost all over. And in the center, there was a key. A nearly glass one. Glass on the top and a strange material like a button around the bottom of the key. Where you would insert it into the keyhole. With a button inside the glass. Luna always thought that it must've been plastic because it never broke, but it never twisted or flexed like most plastic would either. But it was tugging her. As if telling her where to go. So, to her surprise and instinct, she did. She followed where the necklace was tugging her. South. It was pulling her south. The exact opposite direction of the house. Which was perfect. And when she headed south, the necklace tugged less. And Luna still kept running. A few animals followed her along the way. A few squirrels, a few birds, even a deer but kept disappearing. But no matter what, she wouldn't stop running. She couldn't. Not while she was this far out... How far out was she? It seemed far, but not far enough. So she kept running. She was now coming up the hill. Now she knew. The hill was a good 3 or 4 miles. That means, she's getting closer to her neighbors house. Also meaning, she's getting farther away faster than she thought she would. And the best part, it's still only the middle of the night. She left at 11, the time when he usually falls asleep. Luna was often still up at that time. Didn't fall asleep till at least 3 in the morning. Always scared of what's going to happen if she fell asleep. But she was used to it. Her own mind and body was used to sleeping so little. It almost seemed like she didn't need sleep anymore. And finally, she was running down the hill. It wasn't much of a problem. Despite the fact that it was a steep hill. But she didn't care, she kept running and jumping over branches. She'd been preparing for this. Luna expected so many branches and bushes. None of this was unexpected. But she was also careful not to rip her bag open. Since she needed all of the things she had. And the necklace was still barely tugging. She was glad she'd brought the necklace with her. It meant too much for her to leave it behind. Especially there. Of all places.
Before she'd even realized it, she was at least 11 hills away. She had no idea where the energy of running this far was coming from, but she was grateful. Maybe it was all the food she'd actually eaten before leaving. Even her father's disgusting cooking. Which she rarely ate. But no matter the reason, she was grateful. Each hill was the distance of her house, at least 2 or 3 miles apart each. Some even more. At least 6 miles. Then she'd tripped. On something. She didn't even know what she tripped on. But whatever it was, it must've been in the mud. She was on top of another hill. At least the 12th hill. She looked down, something looked like it was stuck in the mud. It wasn't moving but it seemed to be sticking out. Then she jumped, she got scared. Fearing it was him, but no. What she heard was a "meow!" not a 6 foot man screaming at her. Shaming her. It was Jinx. Her cat. The one that she'd had to keep hidden from him. She'd tried to feed him every night and she would bring dead bugs or something dead to her window. Jinx was also happy when Luna decided to take the dead corpse in. Sometimes Luna would even eat the dead thing. Since she was often always hungry. And a dead bird would often look delicious from time to time. Jinx meowed again. Another dead thing but next to Jinx. Probably followed her to bring it to her.
