The kitchen was bustling with energy. The kitchen staff were running around baking and refilling champagne while I stood clueless in the corner. My head was still spinning from my encounter with Alpha Dylan. I wiped my damp hands on my dress, throwing the broken pieces of glass in the garbage.
Piles of food were displayed on the marble countertops. Decadent dark chocolate cakes covered in fudge and lemon cookies placed on white china plates seemed to taunt me. I had never seen that much food before, especially food like that. The werewolves lived like this while my friends and I starved. It made my blood boil.
"Did anyone bring a pitcher of tea to the Alpha's study?" An older plump wolf asked, scrubbing away at a dish. The wolves around her shook their heads, running around, grabbing plates and going back and forth between the ballroom.
"He will want some after the ball. You know how worked up he gets over these events." She huffed, wiping her soapy hands on her white apron.
"You." She pointed at me. "Grab that teapot and run it to the third room in the right-wing." The white teapot with a matching teacup was off to the side on a silver tray.
"Eva told me I shouldn't enter the right-wing." I protested weakly.
"And I'm telling you that if he doesn't get his tea, you will be the one dealing with a very angry Alpha. He gets very temperamental after parties." She said, irritated. I internally rolled my eyes. Alpha Theo was going to throw a temper tantrum if he didn't get his tea? This was the big bad Alpha that every human I knew was afraid of?
I grabbed the tray, making my way to his study. Alpha Theo had to be at the ball by now. It would be fine. I would drop the tray off on his desk and leave. Quick and easy. My heart seemed to be beating out of his it's chest by the time I got to his study. The giant set of black doors intimating me.
I made my way inside. A giant oak desk covered in papers lay in the center of the room. A black velvet couch sat off to the side. Paintings hung on the walls, with a giant window at the back of the room that also overlooked the garden like the bedroom I was placed in earlier. I carefully placed the teapot and cup on the edge of his desk.
The mumbled sound of footsteps could be heard from my place inside his study. Footsteps sounded like they were getting awfully close. I panicked, the tray clutched tight to my chest. That woman was going to get me killed and delivering tea no less. Eva definitely meant it when she said not to enter this side of the house, and Alpha Theo would be beyond mad if he saw me.
I decided to hide. I ran to his desk, crawling under it. I sat against it, my back against the side of it, with my legs folded against my chest. I knew wolves could smell humans, but I hoped with the buzz of the ball, it would be enough of a distraction.
"Yes, Alpha Theo" The doors swung open. Two sets of feet could be heard walking around his study.
"I'll make sure the others are alerted immediately." The same voice spoke again. A familiar voice. It was Luke, and he was talking to Alpha Theo! I covered my mouth with my shakey hands, keeping the tray propped up next to me.
"Good, you're dismissed." Alpha Theo said, his voice deep and commanding. I felt a shiver go up to my spine at the sheer power in just his voice. A set of shiny black dress shoes and black dress pants came into my side view. He was sitting at his desk. I heard Luke leave. Leaving me alone with Alpha Theo. I was surprised he hadn't noticed me yet, but it made sense with all of the people currently in his house. He also seemed preoccupied. Whatever he had been talking about with Luke seemed stressful and serious.
I could hear him writing down something, muttering under his breath about pack matters. I shifted a bit in my crouched position, my body aching. I tried to readjust my legs quickly, but as I did, my foot bumped into the tray. It came loose from its leaning position and clattered to the ground. I swear it was as loud as a gunshot.
