I decided I needed to talk to Lukas, demand to know what his problem was. He wasn't at school, yet again, the next day, so I decided to go to his house. I was terrified, but I had to know what had happened in the hallway the other day. Why he had glared at me so intensely. I asked Rylee where the Iverson house was, and it was just on the borders of the town. I set off from home quite early Saturday morning. I wondered if Lukas would be there. And if he would recognize me. I drove through a windy road, through the thick forest. I followed Rylee's directions, which I had written down on a piece of paper. I wondered how she knew where their house was, but, then again, everybody knew where everybody lived in Cedarwood. The trees got thicker and thicker, and then parted suddenly into a huge clearing. I almost crashed into a tree when I spotted their house. I had never seen anything like it. It was an old fashioned, grey bricked mansion, almost like a castle, but obviously without the moats and the towers. The windows were pitch black. I spotted a garage around the side of the house, and it was open. There were about six sports cars in there: three Ferrari's, black, white and red, a black Audi R8, a blood red Porsche, and a shiny silver Porsche. It was exactly the same Porsche I had seen the day Lukas had glared at me in the hallway. It was probably his. I slowly got out of my car. My hands were shaking, so I stuffed them into the pockets of my jeans. I walked up to the front door, which was probably about twice the size of me, and knocked, timidly. The door opened almost straight away, but it wasn't Lukas that answered. It was a man, a young man, but not young enough to be a teenager. His hair was a chestnut brown, like a hazelnut. His eyes were the same color as his hair, but with a more orange tint. His skin was like marble, and as white as snow. I assumed he was Charles Iverson, Lukas's Dad. I tried a smile, but I couldn't do it.
"Hi, my name is Anna. I'm looking for Lukas Iverson?" I asked, trying to sound as confident as I could. Charles raised an eyebrow at me.
"Why are you here?" I was surprised at his voice. I would have thought he had quite a deep voice. His voice was soft and gentle, despite his fierce expression.
"I'm looking for Lukas. Lukas Iverson," I repeated.
"I've never heard of him," he said, and I was almost convinced that I had the wrong house, until I saw somebody standing in the darkness inside the house. He walked forward. He put his hand on his Dad's shoulder and nodded at him. Charles frowned, and then was gone. I blinked. Lukas was standing there. His hair was all ruffled. I swallowed, my throat tight. His expression was gentle today, his eyes smoother. He smiled at me.
"Hello, Annalia," he smiled, his voice like velvet.
"How do you know my name?" I whispered, my voice shaky.
"You're in my class, are you not?" He asked, raising an eyebrow. I nodded quickly.
"What are you doing here?"
"I wanted to talk to you about... The other day," I mumbled. He tilted his head, confused.
"When you looked like you wanted to kill me," I reminded him, with a shudder. He laughed.
"I'm sorry about that, really, I am. I get excessive mood swings. I wasn't in a great mood that day. Don't take it personally. I wouldn't have hurt you," he grinned. His teeth were perfectly straight, and blinding white. I swallowed.
"Okay, thanks," I muttered.
"Was there anything else you wanted?" He wondered. I noticed he was tapping his foot impatiently. I shook my head.
"Thank you for coming to speak to me about it, anyway. I wanted to explain to you. I will see you at school. Goodbye," he smiled, and closed the door. I walked to my car with a daze. The boy I had just spoke with was not the same boy who had glared at me in the hallway, and I was a hundred percent sure about that.
