chapter 1: the pitiful princess

                      Forget me not

It was bright outside, but the air felt stiff. You could even hear the birds chirping, though the song they song wasn't a happy one.

Athanasia had her regular gloomy face while looking out the window.
After contemplating whether or not to head to the dinning room, she decided to go.

Athanasia pov

"Princess!" On my way to breakfast I heard a familiar voice, it was my maid Lily, or rather Lillian

Lily ran towards me with a look of worry on her face "who dressed you? And what are you doing wandering around?" She was patting me, and checking my face to make sure I was alright 'this is bothersome' I'd usually wait to be dressed by Lily or my other personal maids, but the two I have, Ces, and Hannah have been...busy lately

"I'm alright Lily" I gave her the sweetest smile I could "I'm just going to see father"

"Uh" Lily looked at me in surprise. She had every right to be surprised, after all I've never had breakfast with my father, not once.

My father is Claude the emperor of Obelia. He killed his own brother in order to take the throne. Though the people loved him he was indeed a cold man, he was so Lacking in love that he didn't even acknowledge me, his own daughter.

"Are you sure athy sweetheart? we could always have breakfast together like usual" Lily said. Her hands holding mine. 'Ah she really cares, but there's no need to feel sorry for me, I don't want someone I think of as a mother to pity me'.

Lilian York practically saved me. when I was born my father killed everyone in the ruby palace, yet he didn't kill me 'perhaps I was too small to kill?'. When Lily heard about this she begged him to let her take care of me, he agreed. It's been seventeen years since that day, and Lily has stayed by my side the whole time.

From what I've told you it's obvious why she'd be worried, but there's one difference now from then, my half sister Jennette, her existence was revealed when she debuted in high society. When I saw how beautifully naive she was I knew I had to guide her in the ways of being a princess. I welcomed her into the palace, and surprisingly so did my father. sure I was a bit jealous, but Jennette...hadn't done anything wrong, and there was no reason he couldn't love both his daughters.

"If I don't hurry Jennette and father will be done with breakfast, I just want to try my luck is all" I said pleadingly. 'I adore you Lily, but can't you believe in me? I swear I won't mess up this time, I know if I keep quiet then father won't be mad'

"Alright.." Lily got back to work after giving me a kiss on the forehead.

She was definitely still worried, but today felt a little happier, those clouds that always looked so gloomy seemed different, they seemed brighter.

'I know today's the day' determined I walked into the dinning room, wearing a simple blue dress, with my hair tied on my signature ponytail.

Jennette saw me and beamed with joy
"Good morning sister! you look lovely" she almost got up from her chair. Jennette was sitting at the end closest to the door. 'how sweet, though is it just me, or does her smile look different?'

"Good mor-" I couldn't finish my sentence, his gaze was too cold.
There at the end of the long table I saw him, my father Claude.
