Mischief

I picked at my crimson and gold tie as I read through my potions book in the library. I had to get my grade up; it was the only subject that I had to fight for top of the class. I tightened the bobble keeping my dark blonde hair in it's ponytail as I tested myself.

"Felix Felicis ingredients are a shwinder egg, murtlap tentacle, tincture of thyme, occamy eggshell, powdered common rue and..."

I put my head in my hands.

"Squill bulb my pretty little Bambi!" exclaimed a familiar voice as a body collapsed into the chair across from me.

I glared at the boy with the curly black hair, brown eyes and round glasses sat infront of me. His signature smirk was present on his face and his hair was as unruly as ever.

"And how is it, Prongs, that you never do your work, but always seem to know everything?" I huffed, throwing a crumpled piece of parchment at him.

"I've been asking myself the same thing for 6 years, Mads," sighed Remus as he sat on the right of me.

"Because he's a lucky bugger!" Sirius gibed as he plonked down on my left and slung an arm around my shoulders.

I laughed.

"You've got that right," muttered Peter as he sat next to James.

"Woah-ho, my little rat friend," James smirked.

"So, Miss Chase, what do you say to putting away your books and joining us for some mischief?" Sirius asked me, sliding my books away from me and looking at me expectantly with his grey eyes.

I sighed and rolled my eyes at them.

"Did you agree to this, Moony?" I asked, sending an accusing look his way.

His eyes widened and he put his hands up.

"Hey, normally you're there to vote against it with me!" he protested.

"Ugh, fine, but when I fail and I have no job or house, I'll be living with and annoying you, Sirius Black," I glared, shoving a finger into his chest.

"Any day my gorgeous little friend," he winked at me as we all stood up, James grabbing my books.

"Wingardium Leviosa," I whispered, with a swish and flick of my wand, discreetly.

The books hovered out of James' hands and followed my wand as I walked past him.

"I don't need a servant, Potter," I winked as I brushed past him.

"You're obsessed mate," Sirius whispered once I was out of earshot with Remus and Peter.

"Shut up," James mumbled, punching Sirius lightly in the arm.

"Hey Lucius!"

We watched as a young brunette fluttered her eyelashes up at the Slytherin bully. I saw him smirking with his smug face as he showed off about something or other to the young girl. I mimicked gagging and I heard Remus snigger next to me.

"Now," Sirius whispered.

I stood up from our hiding spot and smiled.

"Hey Lucius!" I called, copying the girl.

He looked at me with a sneer on his face.

"You've really got to start watching where you stand," I pouted.

"What?" he started, looking up.

A bucket of brown goop poured down, all over his pristine robes and splashed onto his little girlfriend. Following in suit, feathers landed on the hideous gloop, turning Malfoy into a human sized chicken. I doubled over in laughter, before being pulled away by Prongs. As we ran, I turned to see a furious Lucius Malfoy chasing after us through the corridors, firing spells, unsuccessfully. We all skidded round the corners of the Hogwarts corridors, laughing and smiling from ear to ear. You see, normally I wouldn't agree with their antics, but I had a personal quarrel with Lucius Malfoy. The years of him shaming me for my blood status and bullying the people close to me for no reason had added up. The day he had made a dig about my mum's death was the day I stopped being tolerable and it was the day the teachers stopped punishing us for what we do to Malfoy. I had broken his nose that day, much to the boy's shock. He had come out of the infirmary a few hours later, only for the 4 boys to put him straight back into it for a few days this time. From that point on, he was our favourite target. We fled into the grounds of Hogwarts, the dark night sky  ominous above us. Hiding behind 3 of the trees surrounding the grounds, we heard him run out and stop. I heard his footsteps as he trudged through the grass left, then right.

"Stupid mudblood, no wonder her mother drank herself to death," I heard him shout, meaning to get my attention.

My blood ran cold and my smile dropped, my expression hardening. I whipped around the tree and pointed my wand at him.

"Silencio."

I watched his eyes widen as he tried to talk, no words coming out. He began clawing at his mouth.

"Levicorpus," I cast, perfectly, Lucius being dragged into the air and upside down.

"Maddie, what are you-," Peter asked as the boys joined me.

"Shh," Sirius hushed, slapping a hand across his chest, "I want to see where this goes."

I marched through Hogwarts with a determined look on my face, the boys close behind me. Soon enough, we reached the Great Hall. I flicked my wand to send Malfoy straight in, still covered in brown muck and feathers. The laughter that rang from the Great Hall lifted my spirits slightly and I let a small smile break onto my face.

"Finite Incantatem," I heard Remus say as the boys peeked into the hall to watch Lucius fall down to a table, pudding and cake mixing with the feathers and muck.

A few students screamed at the sudden splatter of food, but the laughter drowned them out. I watched as the boys cried with laughter, each clutching their stomachs. Quietly, I slipped away from the chaos and took a seat in one of the courtyards. The night was quiet. I silently flicked through my book, my hair now down and flowing freely in the soft wind.

"Hey Bambi," a voice I had come to love said, quietly from the archway to my right.

I looked up to see Prongs leaning against the wall, looking down at me. I smiled slightly as I patted the space next to me.

"Hi," I replied, softly.

He took a seat and just watched me as I focused on my book. I could feel his brown eyes on me, moving from my flowing hair, to my neck and finally to my book.

"What are you reading?"

I looked up at him, almost like I had forgotten he was there.

"It's called Little Women by a muggle author called Louisa May Alcott. Do you want to hear some?"

He nodded his head and I lifted my arms for him to lay on the bench with his head on my lap.

"Like sunshine after a storm were the peaceful weeks which followed. The invalid improved rapidly, and Mr. March began to talk of returning early in the new year..."
