Zara's POV

People talking about the weather. That's all I can hear anymore. That's all anyone talks about anymore.

"Did you notice the weather?"
"Why is it so hot?"
"It's December, we should be getting snow not blazing heat."

I wonder why it's hot too but at least it's not all I talk about. I'm currently sitting in a coffee shop in Britain working on my new book that needs to be published next week. I should probably get back to that actually.
As I'm working a weird monster blob of some sort comes bursting through the window. Next thing I know people are running around and screaming trying to get out of the building. Everyone except me and another girl has left. The girl has her headphones up way too loud to be able to hear what's happening. The monster starts to head towards her but before it can get there I shoot acid at it. Did I forget to mention that I'm supernatural? Sorry, that was my mistake. Anyway back to the action, I shoot acid at it but the monster just seems to absorb it. The girl finally realizes what's going on and runs out of the building, but it doesn't even matter cause the monster is focused on me now. I run out of the building as well running into a back alleyway. I suddenly realized I've made a mistake seeing as I'm now cornered. I turn around and prepare to shoot more acid, even though I know it would do nothing, but before I could the monster suddenly freezes and I see it start to be encompassed in ice. Before I could blink a sword slashes through the iced monster, shattering it into pieces, temporarily blinding me. Once my eyes stop burning I look up to see a female that looks to be in her late teens.

"Are you ok?"
Wow totally not cliche
"Obviously," I say. "Who are you and how did you do that?" I ask questioningly. "My name is River, and you are?" I noticed how she avoided the second part of my question. I wonder if she is like me? I doubt it. "My name is Zara, now tell me how you did that" I demand. She doesn't answer. Instead, she walks towards the remains of the monster. She whispered something under her breath. "What was that?"
"I said, it's another Glymph."
"The hell is a Glymph?"
"It's a type of monster, obviously." She sneers. "Wow really, I had no idea," I say sarcastically. Suddenly I see something glinting in the remains of the monster. I walk towards it slowly and realize it's a greek coin. I pick it up slowly and twirl it around my fingers. "I hadn't seen one of these in years," I say as I'm examining it. "What's that supposed to mean?" River asks. I freeze, realizing I messed up and possibly just gave away my biggest secret. "Nothing," I say right before I flip the coin in the air. As it flies in the air time seems to slow down and the coin freezes midair. I look to River to make sure I'm not hallucinating but she looks just as confused. We walk out of the alleyway and look at everyone else to see them all froze in place.
We walk back into the alley and I try to reach for the coin. I decide to jump off the trash can to grab it out of the air. When I do I have a short-lived victory over it because my vision starts to blur before everything goes black....

Timeskip to Zara's dream

I hear muffled screaming as I wake up. That voice, I hear it again, I know that voice. But who did it belong to? Everything is blurry and my whole body aches. I try to get up but collapse in pain, coughing my lungs out. I roll over and push myself up, successfully this time. I look around and realize where I am. My old home. Fire is everywhere and it's all in ruins. I stand and limp to where the voice was coming from. I see my mother underneath a beam that fell from the ceiling. I quickly run to her and try screaming out her name but I don't hear myself. She starts to talk to me in greek quietly but sure sounding.
"Φύγε, σώσε τον αδερφό σου και τον εαυτό σου. Πρέπει να το κάνεις και να ξεχάσεις για μένα. Ξεκινήστε φρέσκο και ζήστε τη ζωή σας. Σ 'αγαπώ, γιο μου." (Just use google translate to find out what it means) I start to run even though I don't want to. It felt like I wasn't in control of my body anymore and I was on autopilot. I frantically search for my brother and find him huddled up in a corner. I grab him by the arm and pull him up, basically dragging him through the house. Once we reach the front door I open it and start to run to the forest. The whole town was on fire. Just as we make it near the end of the village the buildings start to explode, and the one next to us blows up hitting us and sending us skidding across the grass. My vision starts to blur and my ears are ringing. I start to pass out but not before seeing two figures hover over me and whisper to me, their voices echoing around my head.
"It'll be ok. We're going to help you"
"You will live your life, serving others, and terminating those who have wronged you."
After those final words are said to me my vision goes black and I pass out....

Back to the present time

I wake up feeling something extremely cold on my arm. That's funny it's actually starting to burn now. After a few seconds, I shoot up and viciously scratch and rub my arm. "Oh good, you're awake." River says smiling at me. "Yeah, but did you have to give me freezer burn?" I say angrily. "Well, you weren't responding whenever I yelled at you so yeah I've been freezing your arm for the past 20 minutes." She says clapping her hands together. "Now why did you pass out?"
I look at her confused, "You mean you didn't just see all of that?" She looks at me curiously "See all of what?" she says dumbfounded. "The whole thing with the fire and the woman trapped under a beam and the explosions and the two weird people talking about how they were gonna help me and allow me to get revenge?" I practically yell at her. She just stares at me for a while thinking. Suddenly her eyes dart to the side and she looks surprised, I turn to follow her gaze and see the bits of the weird monster we faced, start to piece itself back together after freeing itself from the ice. "Oh god," I say before River grabs my arm and suddenly we're on the roof with some weird blue and white glowing dust and what looks to be waves around us. "Okay, I'm either hallucinating or delusional," I say confused. "You're neither of those. I think, anyway come on we have to run cause that monster is not too far behind us." I turn my head and see it running towards us. "SINCE WHEN DID IT HAVE LEGS" I yell getting up and starting to run "SINCE IT REFORMED ITSELF" River yells running next to me. There were some minor gaps between the buildings that weren't hard to jump until we came across one much larger. "That has to be at least twenty-five feet wide," I say as we stop. "That's what makes it fun, dork" River tells me as she starts to back up. "Wait what? What are you-" Before I can finish she starts running up to the gap and jumps off the ledge. She barely makes it to the other side, rolling to steady herself. "YOUR TURN" She yells to me "ARE YOU CRAZY" I yell back. "MAYBE" She yells as she smirks. I look back to see the monster gaining on me, "Oh fuck it," I mumble to myself as I back up. I start running and just as I jumped off the ledge the monster reached out to grab me, just barely missing. I close my eyes while I'm in the air then I suddenly feel my feet hit the ground and I stumble in pain from the impact before I feel hands on my shoulders steadying me. I open my light blue eyes just to be met with hazel green ones staring at me in what appears to be worry. "You ok?" River asks me. "I think so, just a little dazed," I say as I turn around. I look into the monsters glowing gold eyes before it deforms and the goo runs down the side of the building into the sewage drains below.
