"lucas!" jolene yelled as she sat in the sofa downstairs. "i can't find my swimming trunks! papito!" jolene groaned. the pair where heading off to the beach. george chuckled at his children's bickering and walked up to help his son. "would you like some coffee?" timothée suddenly spoke up from the kitchen. jolene looked up, facing the boy. "sure" she looked into his eyes, for some reason not fearing his state like she used to.

timothée didn't say anything for a while and jolene continued to read her book. the protagonist was a young girl learning how tough life can be, but much to her dismay the girl's most important goal is to get married. there is so much more to life than to get married, thought jolene.

the sound of a cup being placed on a wooden table interrupted her. "here you go" timothée breathed as he sat down on the other couch. jolene put her book down and grabbed the latte.

as jolene enjoyed the foamy liquid, timothée enjoyed his americano. she sat cross legged in the sofa, her beach bag besides her and her impatience evident. "jo, i'm ready" lucas panted as he ran down the stairs, his swimming shorts on. jolene put down her almost empty cup and grabbed her bag.

timothée watched the girl as she did so. she was wearing something so simple as a large t-shirt and shorts, but she still managed to make him speechless. jolene turned around and locked eyes with timothée "thanks for the coffee". timothée, not being able to response, only stared down at the noticeably shorter girl.

jolene stared into the boys green eyes. they are gorgeous, she thought. without giving the boy much more thought, she turned around and faced an impatient lucas. "let's go shall we?" lucas smiled brightly and grabbed his sisters hand.

the brunette girl held onto the tote bag that hung on her shoulder with her left hand, while her right hand was being held by her brother. they walked down a gravel path as lucas went on and on about some game he and timothée had been playing the other day. jolene had already given up on pretending to listen so she was simply admiring the beautiful nature around them.

she could hear the sound of waves crashing with land and she hushed her brother. "you hear that lucas?" she stopped walking, as did the boy besides her. "what are you-" jolene stomped on his foot and he grunted in pain. "listen will you?" the brunette observed her little brother as he strained his ears to listen. she watched as his face lit up when he finally heard it. "the beach!" he let go of her hand and rushed down the short path left.

jolene shook her head and switched her weight to her right foot and let her body lean forward, making her legs run down the small hill. the feeling of having no control was exhilarating, yet she could only stand it for a a small amount of time. as her feet made contact with the sand, she tried her hardest to slow down. she took quick and short steps so she wouldn't end up in the water with all of her clothes on.

as she was mere inches from the oceans her legs finally stopped and she let out a huge breath of relief. the girl huffed, watching the tide rise slowly, yet surely. she knew the water would hit her sooner rather than later, therefore she quickly threw of her shoes and trapped them in her free hand. jolene stared at the ocean, as if daring the water to touch her.

the water sunk back and for a split second jolene thought she actually had intimidated it, but as the second passed, the wave hit her feet. she leant her head slightly back in enjoyment as the warm water drowned her feet. "move it!" someone shouted from behind her. jolene turned around and was faced with her brother running full spear towards her. jolene quickly jumped away from him and he crashed into the water.

jolene found herself lying on a beach towel and soaking up the last few sun rays as the sun set. she knew it was nearing dinner time, but she couldn't seem to make herself get up.

it was ultimately a bone chilling scream that made jolene shoot up from her lying position. she pushed her glasses up onto the top of her head as she attempted to see where the sound had come from. as her eyes came in contact with a pale boy screaming in agony in the water, her body stiffened in shock.

her brother was yelling for help as his blood colored the water around him, yet the girl couldn't move. all she could do was stare at the young boy as he sat there in pain, and she couldn't do anything.

"holy shit" a voice spoke behind her, before it's owner hurriedly began running down to the shore. as the stranger helped her brother out, jolene still stood there in a horrific transe, but as the boy was lifted out of the water so did she.

jolene let out a gasp as soon as she made contact with the real world and she could suddenly move again. the curly headed teenager carried her bleeding brother towards her. "you'll be fine" he consoled her brother before hastily looking at her. "i'm going to get him up to the house, will you get his stuff?" timothée could see the tears building up in jolenes eyes, tears of guilt. she quickly nodded and he gave her a small comforting smile.

timothée hurried up the small hill, headed for the house. when he was halfway up the hill he heard it. the sound of a heart breaking. jolene let out several sobs as the tears streamed down her cheeks. how could she have been so cold and useless when she was needed? she couldn't even do that.
