-Maverick
"There is no king," Queen Rose arches a brow, "we rule as an entire unit that our ménage is."
"Ménage?" I furrow my brows in confusion, looking over each of the individuals that stand with her and then my next question comes out more of a statement, "Wait, you're all mates to one another?"
Queen Rose looks at me with curiosity and replies, "Yes?"
Well...okay, now I'm not feeling so off about Mavis with Cassius and Titus. This world is very different, yet...similar aspects.
"Your sudden appearance has us very concerned," Queen Rose starts, drifting away from the subject. She tilts her head to the side and states, "During the middle of Meliorist Sanctum's winter break, the high school was attacked by an entity known as Aeon." She motions to the girl with reddish-orange eyes and dark hair, and the girl takes a few steps away from the rest that surrounds her. Queen Rose continues, "This is my daughter, Princess Acacia Arin-Valentine—"
"Who's her daddy?" I arch a brow, and I see a few that hide smirks and smiles, laughs hidden deep down as apparently, their queen isn't the greatest with humor and lifting the mood.
Queen Rose continues, hardly paying any mind to my question and continues, "Acacia was attacked by Aeon," Acacia lifts the sleeve of her right arm up, and I see symbols etched, almost engraved into her skin. They instantly remind me of the runes that Rook is familiar with.
Memories of when Eris' demon took full control without mercy, flashback in an instant, my heart skipping a beat.
"Everything alright, Maverick?" Queen Rose questions, aware of the sudden change in my demeanor. I just don't understand, how can two different worlds...or, how Alpha Keir had mentioned, timelines? How can they be so similar, yet so different at the same time?
I lift my gaze and state, "I never told you my name, and he," I nod at Alpha Loki, "never said a word to you."
"That is true, though he communicated that information with my daughter, as she is one of his mates, and he is one of hers," Queen Rose looks at me hard, "blood has a connection deeper than that of soulmates. I'm aware that you're not from here, nor this era, nor this timeline, am I correct?"
How information travels quicker than I realized. They're all in some way, somehow, connected. My gaze holds hers as I state, "I guess not."
Queen Rose continues where she left off with her daughter, "As I was saying, Acacia was attacked, and since then, we've been experiencing minor attacks slipped through the veil of creatures that do not adhere to the ruling of King Tresor Vossen, the incubus king that rules beyond the veil, yet has been stuck here ever since my daughter's birth."
"Alright, so...is she the reason that this 'veil' is held in place, to begin with? Because you might wanna check there first." I shrug my shoulders, slipping my hands into my pockets. I continue, "I don't see how any of this concerns me. Something powerful broke where I'm from, and it transported my daughter, Mavis, and a friend of mine, Harlan...to this place," I glance around once more. Tilting my head to the side, I continue, "I just want to get back home. I have no qualms or quarrel with any of you. You seem like nice folks, awesomely powerful vampires," I move my head back and forth, "eh, werewolves I guess, not so much, but to each their own."
Queen Rose rises from the chair she sits upon and informs me, "I find it very suspicious that you suddenly appear at the same time that we are being attacked, and the company you keep, is a warlock."
"Alright, why do you keep calling Harlan a warlock?" I narrow my eyes, "I know what warlocks are, humans imbued with the gift of magic. Harlan is an incubus, not a warlock."
"Same difference to us in this era," Queen Rose holds firmly.
"Alright...whatever," I shrug my shoulders and remain silent after that. I watch as those in the room begin to discuss among themselves, silently and through their verbal communication alike.
Murmurs of, "Threat," and "dangerous," spread a lot, among other things.
Irritation escalates and I sigh, "I'm not a threat to you. I neither want to be here nor am I enjoying the hospitality and current stay I'm experiencing."
"I'll decide that for myself—"
"Just stop it!" Acacia cuts her mother short, glowering angrily as she snaps, "If you had just listened to me about Dot sooner, I wouldn't have been attacked! All she's ever done was help us! Even before me, regardless of the crimes she committed. Now, she's fighting and deterring Aeon at all costs, for what? For people who didn't believe in her. For people who supposedly cared about her?"
Queen Rose releases a sigh, "Acacia—"
"No, she's right!" The boy that I can only assume is her sibling, steps forward and next to her, "You never once requested Dot's blood memories, to truly understand her intentions! You put us all in danger when you thought you were protecting us! Protecting us from the one person who wants to do...just THAT!"
"Titan, stop," Queen Rose seems to no longer have the reigns on her children. Her tone, it causes them to grow silent, her voice carrying out as she admits, "I was wrong, I know this now...Dot was never a threat. The real threat has been growing in strength this whole time...."
"You're lucky she even cares to help us any longer," this comes from Alpha Loki, "the entire time, you had me guarding what was considered the number one threat to the crown when she could have helped far beyond the capacity that we understand. You know my feelings and how I regard you now...I'll respect you as my queen, though you know I hardly will adhere to your lack of judgment calls moving forward."
Silence falls and I breathe out, "Okay...so, I see this is a family matter. Am I free to go?"
"Go where?" Queen Rose questions, "How are you going to get home?"
Yeah...
...Harlan, how am I going to get home?
Queen Rose then turns her full attention on me and explains, "I've made mistakes as a ruler, some long-term that has cut deeply, and I know I'll pay for those, however...I ask that if you are not our enemy, that you stand as our ally, and aid Dot and her mates at Meliorist Sanctum."
"This isn't my world, nor my fight," I choke back on a laugh as I shake my head.
"Tresor can help you get back to your world, should you help us," Queen Rose mentions this, and I feel how slowly I'm sinking into the grave they keep digging. If Harlan can't find a way to get me home, then I'll have broken my promise to Mavis, and...
Nodding, I state, "Deal, I'll help get rid of the immediate threat you're under...nothing more, however, I need more than just an empty promise of words to ensure my safe return."
A woman suddenly appears in nearly a form of mist, standing a few feet away from me and reassuring, "We will get you back home," she shows me a stone between her fingers. It's alike the beacon.
My jaw clenches and I nod, "Alright, terms accepted."
