It was a cold morning in London. It was 1991. Peter has not come back for Wendy, making her a grown up. Jane was playing with Daniel in the Nursery, telling the story of Peter Pan since her mother would have told her the story first hand. Walking down the staircase of the mansion, she would be in the kitchen making breakfast for Jane and Daniel.
"I wonder when Peter shall return." Wendy would ponder in her mind, wondering when he would actually keep his promise by returning. It was Mid-Spring, but she knew he will return on his own accord. Making the waffles, she would place them on the plates next to her when they would have popped out from the toaster. Making her way to the refrigerator, she would have pulled out strawberries. Placing the strawberries onto the waffles, she would call up to Jane and Daniel.
"Jane, Daniel! Breakfast is done. Come downstairs now." Her voice was gentle to the children, since she did not want to scare them from their games that they were playing, while telling her story.
"Coming mother!" Both Jane and Daniel said in unison. Jane would be in her purple nightgown since waking up from the bed, while Daniel was in his Peter Pan pajamas. Daniel would walk down the stairs with his sister, smiling since he loved the story that Jane told him about the boy who could never love. Jane would be smiling as well since she loved the story her mother told her, holding the kiss of the acorn around her neck.
"Mother? Do you feel well today?" Jane would ask politely, sitting at the table with her brother. Her smile would be bright, since it was a good morning for her. Seeing the waffles, she would giggle with joy.
"Oh! The Mickey Mouse waffles. Oh, mother. You know how I love that with Daniel." She would smile so wide with Daniel, that they would dig into their breakfast without hesitation.
"I am feeling fine my darling." Wendy said gently upon her children. She would smile with a bright but yet a melancholy glare. Today, a lot was on her mind from the adventures she had in Neverland.
"Have you two slept well?" Looking upon Daniel and Jane, she would wonder in her mind. The innocence of youth could be seen in the children, except Wendy. In Wendy's mind, it would bother her, shaking off the thought of love between her and Peter.
"We have." Daniel stated, smiling at his mother. "These Mickey Mouse waffles are delicious mum. You make the best waffles in the land of London. I wonder why you do not work in the restaurants around. They could use a good cook." A soft chuckle came from Daniel's lips, making him the happiest boy that morning.
"I would rather tell stories, since that is what I am good at Daniel. I will only be a house wife, since your father Edward is now at war. Things might change soon, so do not worry." Wendy stated.
"The sleep was well worth it, mother. I feel so much better today. You look as if something is wrong. What is it mother?" Jane would look up into her mother's eyes, putting her fork near her knife on the napkin. She did not want to mess up her mother's new table cloth, which was Captain Hook and Peter Pan. The family was the Darling's, and they knew their mother saw Peter Pan, but it seems their mother was upset.
"It is just a thought, Jane. I have been thinking about Peter Pan lately. The innocence of youth in you and Daniel reminds me of my teenager days is all. I just miss them. Now I can not go to Neverland like you can. Now I remain in London. How I wish I could go back to see the Lost Boys, Captain Hook, and Peter. It shall never happen." Wendy sighed, giving a sad but yet happy look.
"I have you two now." She stated with a fact. "Daniel is my son, and you are my daughter. That is all I could ever ask for. Do not fret, Jane. Now eat your breakfast." Wendy would be eating scrambled eggs that she would have made from the frying pan, loving the taste of new fresh eggs from the farmer's market.
