I was a mistake. An accident. At least, that's what my parents think. I know they tried to cover their mistake, but people already knew the truth. Knew that I was conceived before marriage. My birthday being October 31st, 1994 was no shock to everyone. They pretty much claimed that I was doomed and forever in the bottomless pits of the place known as Hell. Yes, that's what I heard as a young child. It also didn't help that my father was the world's most famous vampire hunter, which is why I was able to keep my secret from him for a year. My secret of being a vampire. It happened on the night of December 1st. The night where I became a creature of the night and was no longer human.

                                                                                ...

It was a cold and windy winter night. I was living with my parents only because they wouldn't  help pay for my college tuition and even if I did get the money, they would forbid me from leaving because of who I was. The accident/mistake. I was in the livingroom dozing off on the sofa that night when my father yelled,

"Leif!!! Get wood for the fire. Move it! I don't want to be freezing my bottom off because you weren't responsible enough to get wood!" He left the room and I just groaned. I slowly got up from the sofa and put my work boots and gloves on. I pull my jacket on when my young brother who was 5, came in. He looked at me with the eyes of an innocent child.

"Leif? I'm afraid of going to bed." Tears fill in his eyes and I squat down, looking at him in the eye.

"Well, I have to go outside to get wood for the fire, but if you wait for me I can take care of the 'monsters' under your bed." I replied with a sigh. I give him a small smile and he returns it. "Now get into your room. I promise to be there when I'm finished, alright?"

He nods and walks off. I stand up and walk towards the back door. I had a shiver go down my spine, but  I couldn't quite understand what it meant. I slowly open the door and the cold air rushed to meet me. I walk right outside, embracing the coldness around me. It was typical weather in the town of Harrison, MI. Cold temperatures, snow, hail, etc. I didn't care. It was enough to make anyone want to stay indoors. I trudged slowly through the snow to the back gate. Out there is where we store the piles of wood. I take a glance back to see if anyone is watching me, but there was no one there.

I reach the first pile of wood and bending down to pick it up a piece when I hear a strange noise. I stand up and look behind me. Seeing no one there, I went back to grabbing a piece of wood. I am about to grab it when I hear footsteps coming towards me. I freeze and so did the footsteps. My breathing quickens and I hear a deep, haunting voice whisper in my ear,

"Are you ready to join us today, Leif?" With that, cold hands wrapped around my mouth and drags me away. I am struggling to break loose, but my captive is holding me with a steel grip. "Are you ready to become one of us?" The voice whispers again in my ear.

Suddenly I feel sharp teeth digging into the flesh of my neck and listened as my attacker suclked on my blood. I groan and soon, everything becomes pitch black.

                                        ...

When I awaken, I feel dizzy, disorient and confused. I look up from the pile of snow that my face had fallen into after the incident.

"What happened?" I moan. It took a few minutes for my memory to come back. It was the dat of December 1st, 2014, in the town of Harrison, MI, and in the backyard of my home. My head starts to pound. I slowly stand up and lean against a tree. My vision was all haywire. I could see more clearly than before and some of the scents that I've never smelled were coming in like several moths heading to one light source. I slowly walk to the back door of my house, and of course stumble more than I wanted to. It didn't surprise me that my parents weren't worried. By this time, they were either asleep or not even caring for where I was. I reach the backdoor and quietly open it. The warmth of the house greets me and I rush in. I walk cautiously into the bathroom and look into the mirror. I gasp in horror by what I was seeing, which was nothing. I have no reflection in the mirror. I glance down at my hands and barely scream. My hands are pale like a corpse and it wasn't from being out in the cold either. I slump down onto the floor and begin to weep. I now have to keep a dark secret from my father and it would be dangerous if he ever found out.
