I knew as soon as I met him I was in love. He was tall and charming and very well kept. We met in a coffee shop. I had been having the worst day, and stopped there to get myself a treat in an attempt to salvage it. I went to a local place that made the absolute best pastries. Once I had acquired my snack I turned around and of course not paying attention ran face first into him. I stumbled back and almost ran into a table but he instantly grabbed my elbow to keep me from falling and yanked me towards him by accident.
"I- I'm so sorry I wasn't watching where I was going. You didn't spill your drink did you?" I looked up at him for the first time and he was absolutely breathtaking. His long hair cascaded over his shoulders, framing his kind face perfectly. He almost looked godly, even with the scar, especially with it. He was wearing a plain white button up shirt with the sleeves rolled to his elbows, and some slacks that seemed to fit his form perfectly.
"Oh that's alright. No harm done." He chuckled and smiled at me. "You didn't hurt yourself did you? You seem to be pretty spooked."
"Oh no I'm fine. I was just having a bad day so I stopped to get a snack and I wasn't paying attention because I was so excited to have time to sit by myself and eat my snack and- Sorry you probably don't care about all that." It was then that I realized we were standing less than six inches apart, and people were staring. I cleared my throat and took a small step back. "Sorry."
"No that's completely okay. Let's go somewhere less crowded where you can calm down. Is it alright if I put my hand on your arm? I realized before I didn't have time to ask, I apologize." He holds his hand out, a soft warm smile still on his face.
I can feel my face turning red. "Uh, yeah that's okay." I place my elbow into his hand hesitantly and he grins.
"Fantastic. I know just the spot." He grinned and led me outside and down the street to a small park. We sat on a bench next to each other. For a few moments I just looked around awkwardly before he decided to speak again. "So I didn't catch your name?"
"Oh, forgive me. It's y/n. It's nice to meet you." I looked up at him and he was still smiling, it seemed that it never left his face.
"Nice to meet you. I'm Robert Speedwagon, and might I say that it is quite serendipitous meeting you." He leaned closer to me, which caught me off guard.
"I suppose I would have to agree. Most people would have called me all sorts of names for not paying attention." I fiddled with the bag my snack was in, trying to open it.
"Tsk. That would have been quite rude. You were simply excited about your snack. I thought you looked quite cute being so focused, I was actually on my way to ask you to sit with me. So really it is my fault we collided." He was staring at me and I could feel it. My face once again turned a bright shade of red. He quickly sat up, increasing the distance between us. "I'm sorry that was very forward. I didn't mean to upset you."
"No you didn't upset me! I was just surprised. You're very handsome, I didn't think you would be interested in me." I turned towards him, my knee brushing against his leg. "I'm sorry for being so awkward. I'm really not used to people being this genuinely kind to me."
He frowned, even with his face scrunched up in irritation he was beautiful. "Well then, we shall have to change that. Would you hand me your phone so that I might put my number in your contacts?" He held his hand out expectantly and I dumbfoundedly unlocked my phone and handed it to him. He put his number in and I watched him send himself a message. "There. Now, I do apologize but unfortunately I have somewhere to be. My good friend Jonathan needs my help with something and he's quite the idiot on his own. Please, if you feel comfortable, let me know the next time that you are free. I would love to spend some time getting to know you."
"I- um... of course." I nodded at him and he walked away, each step filled with purpose.
I thought that he would surely forget about me, but he didn't. Within the night he texted me again.
I know it might be a bit soon to bother you (at
least that's what jonathan says) but I wanted
to ask if your day has gotten any better?
It got much better after I met you :)
Is that so? I've gotta say my mood was also
much better upon meeting you y/n. I quite
enjoy your company.
We only got to hang out for like ten minutes how
could you possibly know if you enjoy my company yet?
I simply do. I would like it if we could
possibly hang out again soon.
I think I'd like that.
Speedwagon is calling...
I hesitated for a moment before answering. "Hello?"
"Good evening." His voice was kind of low and raspy, and he sounded like he was smiling. "I know it isn't usual for men to be this forward these days, but I wanted to hear your voice one more time before I retired for the night."
I covered my mouth and held back a giggle. "No, it's okay. I kind of like it. It's different."
"I'm glad you like it. I can't help myself, I see no point for mysteries and games. I would much rather tell you how I feel and know how you feel in return." I can hear him rustling around on the other side of the phone.
"Are you in bed already?" I whisper for some reason, I live alone so it's not like I'm going to wake anyone up, but I still feel like I need to be quiet.
"Uh, yeah. I couldn't sleep. Is that a problem?" I can hear the uncertainty in his voice.
"No. Why would it be? I'm sitting in bed myself. It is kind of late." I turn the lights out and climb under my sheets. I can hear him yawn across the line.
"It is getting kind of late. Would you like me to leave you to rest my dear?"
My cheeks flush in surprise. "U-uh, no that's okay. I like talking to you." I cradle the phone to my ear as I settle into bed.
"Promise?" He sounds like he's almost asleep as he says this, not really paying attention to what he's saying anymore.
"Yeah I promise." I chuckle, smiling.
"Good." He says, almost inaudible. I yawn and close my eyes. After a couple of minutes all I can hear is him breathing softly into the phone.
"Robert?" I whisper. No response. He must have fallen asleep. I put the phone on speaker and sit it next to me. After a few minutes I drift into sleep myself.
