Dusk

Dusk yawned as he shuffled to his feet. He looks around the den to see his pack sleeping safe and sound. He sniffs the air, which smelt of dew, and the carcass of deer from their last meal. He flicks his ear as his tail sways from side to side. He always wake up in the middle of the night. It became a habit for him. He knew he needed to conserve his energy for tommorow, but he was no longer tired. Wolves need energy, for his pack is always moving. Our territory is constantly being prowled upon for they had picked the best spot; it was a valley which consisted of trees, and a sparkling river in which they hunt fish, drank, or bathe. They try their best to avoid a dangerous pack, the Shades, for they contained wolves embedded with dark magic; however, this was not the case. He yawned and stretched his legs, his black fur dancing in the wind as a cold front passes. He looks around his home. The cave was dark, but Dusk was still able to see. There were rows of familys, pregnant mothers, or others guarding their kin. There was a few widows, but most of them are single. He never worries about a girlfriend, for Dusk is only 15, but he thinks about it now and then. He looks over to see his mother and father, curled up next to each other. However, his sister was no where to be found. Huh, he thought. He pads over the the cave exit, stepping over families and avoiding tails. He walks out of the cave into the moonlight. The valley lays before him. He sucks in the dewy air, smelling the pollen. He glances over to the caves. He saw his sister, Dawn, sitting at a edge of a cliff.
Dusk climbs up the mountain, jumping by caves and avoiding twigs, intentions for scaring his sister. However, it soon failed, for his sister smelt him upon arrival.
"Hello Dusk," She says, her voice agitated.
"What are you doing up here alone?" Dusk ponders.
"Why do you care," she growls.
Dusk was surprised by her response.
"I was just curious." He says, his ears going down.
Dawn noticed how he reacted, and she sighed.
"I've been thinking about things."
"Like what?"
"Well," she started. "You know dad is.."
"..Getting old."
"Mmh. And when he dies, or retires, it will be my responsiblity to be the Alpha of this pack.." she trailed off.
Dusk looked at her sideways, perplexed.
"Why are you worried?" He asks.
"Well, I'm only sixteen. I'm going to have to choose these, big.. decisions.. and I'm not sure what would be best for the pack!"
She lays down, laying her head on her forearm with her paw sticking out in front of her. Her chestnut fur glistened in the moonlight. It occurred to Dusk that Dawn must come up here often. He sighs, walking over to her and laying right beside her. He lays his tail on her own.
"I love you big sister, and I think you will figure something out," he smiles.
Dawn looks at him, her big blue eyes glistening.
"Thank you, Dusk."
They both lay side by side; as the night flows through to the morning.

Dusk trots through the valley, enjoying the warmth of the sun and the morning air in his lungs. He looks around, seeing other wolves playing with their friends. He heard running behind him, and before he could turn around someone pounced on him, landing on his back, causing them both to fall to the ground. He quickly scrambled up, and noticed the wolf who pounced him was no other then his best friend.
"Grey!" He exclaimed.
Grey's mother was a good friend of Dusk's father. Grey was a gray and black wolf, with beautiful, sapphire eyes that glew in the sunlight. They have been best friends since they were pups.
The only issue was she is a beta.
Dusk was an omega. Omegas should not be seen with betas. They were only able to hang out because Dusk's father was an Alpha, however, Dusk is unsure if the rest of the pack would react kindly.
Grey laughs and jumps to her feet.
"Wassup Dusk," she says.
Dusk tosses his fur back. "Nothing much, what about you?"
A cloud hangs over the sun. Dusk sits, wrapping his tail around himself.
"I'm good, but I'm also hungry," she says, licking her chops.
Dusk chuckles. "Aren't you always?"
"You have a point there."
She gets up and plops right next to him.
"Grey. There's a lot of people here." He observes.
"I know." She turns to Dusk. "Are you ashamed with being my friend?"
"No no," he says, "Its just that. Your a beta, I'm an omega. Its complicated." He sighs. Both of their ears went down as they exchanged sadden glances. Dusk closed his emerald eyes, taking in the warmth as the cloud moves away from the sun.
A sudden commotion broke out between the wolves.
Dusk and Grey got to their feet, ears high and alert, ran towards the sounds.
They stopped to see the wolves gathered around in a circle.
There was a fight going on.
Dusk and Grey made their way through the crowds, so see who was fighting. Grey was horrified to see her brother, Max, fighting with Domino, a high maintenance Beta.
"Max!" She cried.
Dusk ran in between the wolves. Domino snarled and lurched forward, biting on Dusk's neck. Dusk yelped, jumping out of his grasp. His neck felt hot. He growled and ducked low, blocking Max from Domino's view. The black and white wolf stared at him, his black and white eyes piercing through his soul. Dusk's ears starting ringing. He gasped at the volume of the ringing. He ducked down low, blocking his ears, trying to make it go away. Domino took advantage and leaped on top of him.
Dusk heard blurring sounds of his name being called. It sounded like as if he were underwater. It took him a second to realize it was Grey. The ringing continued, louder than before. He whined, and felt claws on his back. He heard a yelp behind him, and noticed Max brought Domino down, holding him down with his teeth. The ringing in Dusk's ears faded away. He shook his head in a daze, and limped over to Domino. Max was still holding him down.
"What do you want, filthy omega," Domino rasped. He tried to break free of Max's grip, but Max held on tight.
"Why were you fighting the brother of another Beta, Domino" Dusk sighed.
"Why is it any your business?" He snapped.
"Maybe this will teach you not to stick your nose in places where it doesn't belong. Let him go, Max. And we will be off."
Max let go of his fierce grip, and they both descended, leaving Domino there to fend for himself. Disappointed for they thought there would be more, the group slumped away. Grey ran up to Dusk.
"Dusk are you alright?" She asked, concern in her voice.
"Yes, it's just a few scratches." He knew that wasnt true, the scratches on his back pounded and he feared they may leave a scar, and his neck was hot and sticky with blood. He stopped and cleaned himself, licking parts where his fur was most matted. Fights broke out all the time in the pack. Dusk was never really involved, but this time it was Grey's brother. Fights mainly happen with Beta's and Alpha's, however, this was a new case. It was odd for a pack wolf to get in a fight with a Beta. The only way that could have happened was they must have been insulting each other to the point of a fight. Dusk sighed. His ears went limp.
"Its going to be okay," said Grey.
He nods, his neck bringing new pain.
"Why did you hesitate?" She asked.
"What?"
"You sorta stopped and like, gripped your ears, as if you were afraid." She pointed out.
Dusk reentered the sharp ringing in his ears. He explained this to her, describing the sound. She nodded in understanding.
"But where would that come from? Unless--" she stopped mid sentence.
"Unless..?" Dusk asked, confused.
"Domino is.." she quickly turned to Dusk.
"Dusk! I think Domino is-"
"A Shade? You got it correct." Domino says, emerging from the shadows.
