It was a shift in the air that woke her up. Lydia stirred, moaning tiredly. She thought she had heard the door whine but blamed it on the wind. She hiked up the covers over her naked skin, pressing her nose against the fabric as she breathed in the comforting scent of fresh linen and his musk. A heavy weight circled her waist, sending a soothing warmth through her body straight to her bones. The corner of her lips curled into a fond smile as she gazed up at Jordan, his face merely a few inches away from hers.

She noticed how he looked a lot younger when he was asleep or maybe he looked just his age. Maybe he seemed older when he was awake, the weight of responsibilities wearing him down a few years. The lines that usually marred his forehead were smooth, the frown he usually wore was nonexistent - his facial features were relaxed. She gently grazed his jawline with her fingertips, feeling the beginnings of a five o'clock shadow. She left a trail from his chin to the dip between his collarbones.

Jordan made a low sound at the back of his throat but didn't stir.

Lydia nuzzled his bare shoulder, soaking up his warmth and comforting scent that radiated off of him. Her eyes fluttered closed, dragging this moment as long as she could. Jordan was who she needed to fill the void in her heart, in her life. He was the only one that understood her on a different level, the pain and loss that had marked her for life. She had lost enough people, she couldn't - wouldn't - lose him too.

It was a prickling sensation on her back that alerted her. The same feeling you get when someone's watching you. As she turned on her other side, Lydia didn't particularly know what to expect but the sight of an adorable cherub face with blonde ringlets wasn't it.

The little girl's green eyes twinkled. "Hi."

"Hi ... ?" Lydia pulled the covers tight around her body, trying to preserve some of her modesty or what was left of it.

"My name's Jade and I'm five years old," she whispered, proudly holding up five fingers. "I love princesses. You look like a princess. What is your favorite princess?"

"Hi Jade." Lydia propped up her head, resting it on her hand. "I love princesses. My personal favorite is Jasmine," she replied in a hushed tone.

Jade's eyes widened. "I love her too!" She bit down on her lip when Jordan stirred. A little sigh of relief escaped her lips when it soon became clear she hadn't woken him up. Her eyes drifted back to Lydia, offering her a sweet smile. "You're really pretty."

"Thank you." Lydia found herself soften up to this cutie. She reached out to poke her button nose. "And you're adorable."

Jade smiled shyly. "Are you Jordan's friend?"

"Something like that." Lydia decided not to elaborate, best to keep things vague. She honestly didn't even know what she was to Jordan.

"Like his BBF?"
