You would think after what happened I would be a mess, I would at least be crying and my mind would be full of all sorts of emotions, but it was blank, like a canvas before a genius applied their touch, the ringing of my ears disguised the sounds of sirens and people yelling. I wasn't scared, I was focused, my eyes wouldn't move from the door slowly getting devoured by flames till I saw him walk out. Hours passed as the flames died down revealing the pain it has chosen to inflict into my life, revealing the emptiness of which a standing man has still not appeared. That's when I felt the emotion that was soon meant to appear at any time finally filling up my empty head to the point of exploding causing it to run out my eyes, down my cheek, and onto the burnt pavement.

He was gone.

All I remember after that was running, running till my knees couldn't take it anymore. It was so cold, my body couldn't contain the shivers running down my spine to the bottom of my feet, I had nowhere to go, looking at the lifeless road with zero to none hope for the next few hours only to push myself harder than I've ever had to. If he was gone then there's nobody anymore, it's just me. Crouching down to the side of an ally only finding last weeks newspapers to bring a little feeling into my frozen body, small hums can't help but let themselves out of my mouth, the sound of my hums on the cold winter air causing vibrations through the wind breaking any silence between the two of us. The crispy air places its fingertips to my eyelids forcing them to close.

Waking up at first glance I knew where I was, the beeping monitors and rushing people gave it away. I don't even remember getting her the last thing I remember is passing out in some ally. The memories of yesterday's events start flushing through my head, it all happened so fast if only he didn't go back inside, why did he go back inside? The only people who lived there were us, maybe he wanted to grab something? Whatever it was it must have been important seeing as he didn't come back out.

My thoughts were interrupted by a lady wearing a coat and weird-looking glasses.

"Hello, you must be Darcy," she said, making a small glance at me waiting for me to respond, I didn't say anything. She pulls a chair over to the side of my bed I notice her textured hand move its way towards mine fast enough to leave me no time to pull away, I look up and find her looking into my eyes full of what seemed like sympathy

"You know everything's gonna be fine" she insisted, I felt the blood in my body start to get hot. " how can you say that." her eyes now showing emotion of confusion "I watched him go in, I waited and I watched him not come out". My voice can't help but crack as I'm not trying to hide my mixed feelings.
