Davey should be a freaking private investigator. If you give her boy she'll figure out who he is somehow. The fastest she's detected was thirty minutes. I don't know how she does it and whenever I asked her, she said "I'll have to kill you if I tell you." Even though it was an empty threat, I left it alone.
When we couldn't figure out who those boys were in class, Davey was on it. She was on her phone the moment we walked out of seventh hour.
"Don't you think we could just wait until tomorrow?" I asked when we walked out the doors, me going to the bus, her walking to the parking lot.
She shushed me as she put the phone between her shoulder and ear with a pen in her mouth as she went through a notebook. We paused on the side walk while she talked to the person at the end of the other line and wrote a couple things down in the notebook. She hung up and put the notebook in her bag. "I'm sorry, you said something about..."
"Waiting 'til tomorrow."
She nodded. "Right. So you're planning on going back and talking to them tomorrow?"
"No. Roll call."
She had a look a realization on her face but shrugged and pulled me in for a hug, which put my head between her chest because I'm five foot two and she's five foot seven. "It's no fun to do that." She let go of me and looked back to see if her friend, Alex, was ready. "I'll call you by the end of night with the names. I love you."
"I love you too." And she was gone.

When I got off the bus, my friend Audrey called me. Audrey was the third member of our small group.
"So Davey told me to leave her alone all night so that either means today went awful and she's pissed or she's investigating." She knew Day just as well as me.
"The latter." I opened the door to my house and found my cat, Cali, sitting on the couch and sat down next to her.
"Who did she find this time?" She took a sip of something, I'm assuming Dr. Pepper since she's addicted.
"They're both in our botany class."
"Wait. There's two?" She sounded interested now.
After a week of being single after getting dumped over text after being with the boy for a year, she's already looking at prospects.
"Yeah, but don't get your hopes up,we don't even know who they are," I walked to my kitchen to hopefully find a bottle of water.
"With Davey on this, we will by the morning, Kay."
I sighed as I couldn't find any bottles and settled with sink water. "Sure, say something does happen, but there's two and me and Davey make two," I took a sip from the glass and scrunched my nose in disgust, tap water is gross.
"I think you're forgetting that Day never touches, she just looks."
She was right; Day had this thing with relationships, almost like she was afraid of them. She'll talk to a boy for a while and when things start to actually develop, she backs out. I have this theory that it was the result from a boy doing the same thing to her when we were in seventh grade. Sure, she was young, but she really liked this boy; maybe even loved. I don't really know, we never talk about in detail.
"Well, I'll be sure to let you know who the victims are."
"Nah, I might get Day to actually talk to me. "
I quirked an eyebrow at my tv, "How are you gonna do that?"
"Josh Haverly is in my Drama class."
Josh Haverly is a junior who Davey is pretty positive "was sent from the gods" and "everywhere he touched turned to gold." He was a prodigy student; straight A's, 4.23 gpa and advanced in everything. He was also a star on the track and cross country team and he was "ungodly hot". Davey can't get enough of this boy, but she's also never talked to him. Not even a single hi.
"She's liable to have a heart attack."
"Eh, we'll see. Love you."
"Love you too." And she hung up.

"You better have an emergency or I'm slapping you tomorrow," I groaned into the phone
2:29 am and Davey is calling me. I should've turned off my ringer.
"You're adorable," she sounded so energized so that means she knows who they are. "I know who they are."
"And you couldn't have told me when I woke up," I sat up and turned on my bedside lamp, she wasn't letting me sleep for a while.
"I would've figured it out earlier, but there were minor set backs." She trailed off.
"Audrey told you about Josh."
Short pause, "Yeah. And m-"
"Day, you woke me up for this."
"Yeah, yeah. I'm sorry. The brunette is Kody Farmore and the blonde is Jake Thaldway. They both have all social media and you can look them up."
"I will do that when I wake up for school tomorrow."
"No, you should do it now."
"I am half asleep I won't even remember the pictures."
"Bull shit, you have time to look them up because baby Jesus, are they Godly boys."
I rolled my eyes, "What, are we gonna get their addresses and go to their houses too?" I was joking. 100% But Davey didn't seem to laugh or say anything and that meant bad things. "Davey, no."
"They shouldnt post their license or mailboxes on Facebook!" Davey defended herself.
I shook my head, "I'm going back to sleep."
"Fine. I'll see you tomorrow. Love You." she sighed.
"Love you." I hung up.
Tomorrow would be interesting.
