Eternal Sadness

Things are so sad between you and I.
You were the gold and I was the silver twinkling star,
You were the sun, I was your moon, lit by your shine;
Let me now know, if you were really mine:
Were you really mine?

You hold her tight, she lets out a shallow sigh,
You look into her eyes, she gives a gentle sign,
You're dancing with her, with a genuine smile;
So gentle, so genuine as it never was with mine,
Was it the same with mine?

I wish I could go back, and stay there for a while,
When I was the sinking ship, and you were the deep ocean,
When we walked, with our eyes locked on the starry night sky,
When you were just a saving ghost in my day dream,
Like she is in yours, and I was never her.

Resting your head on her shoulder, you humm a happy song,
With your fingers interlaced in hers, you hold her shaking hands,
She looks up at you with gentle love-struck eyes,
While I watch you and her, with sadness woven in my heart,
And this eternal sadness will last forever.
