1900, if your wondering when this takes place. And yes, of course in London. The dark streets of London. I've never really been much outside. U see, I was raised by my nanny. Yet my mom and dad was always at home. My mom was to busy drinking tea and going to markets with her friends. She never really cared about me. She just delivered me to have a reason to stay with my dad. My dad? Never cared either. Always to busy being wasted or smoking, or gamling. Gosh they are awful. And none of them got a job. They are just both rich. Me? Yeah I'm going to be rich myself as soon as I move out. 'Cause of the amount of money we have. But mom or dad would never in a billion years let me leave this house. My nanny? She's an independent woman as all woman should be. She has her own voice. I've always admired her and her stories. She's traveled a lot, and has a lot of stories about all these guys wanting her back in the days. They are fun to hear about, but I would never be in that position. I dont need a man. I only need myself. But whoever or whatever decides faith had other plans for me.
"Angelica!" I was still sleeping. It was morning. But I could hear my mom scream my name way to far into my dreams. It woke me up. "Angelica! Get down her now" I sat up and oh my I was tired. I had trouble keeping my eyes open. Yet, it was light outside, which meant the clock was past 4 am. Didn't feel like it tho. "Mom? How much is the clock? I swear to God I'm not coming down if its before 8" The room where cold. The sun was shining in the window, and made my room having a warm color. "It's 10" I gasped. Then I finally dragged myself out of the bed, got dressed and walked downstairs. The floor made my feet cold, even tho I was wearing shoes. I think it's pretty weird wearing shoes inside. I remember nanny telling me about her time in Europe. And how they never used shoes inside over there. Only socks.
"Why do you need me? Wow I never thought I'd say that" I sat down in the couch. My mam was sitting as straight as she usually does. "Well aren't you funny this morning" I gave her a fake smile. "Angelica, you're turning 17 next week" I thought about it. 17. I have walked around on this earth for 17 years. My mom and dad haven't cared for me for 17 years. "Wow I didn't know you had the brain capacity to remember my birthday" She looked offended. She drank a little of her tea, and then sat the cup down on the table. On a brick. Of course on one of those table bricks, what else? "Well I'm thinking about you getting wed" I was shook. My eyeballs almost fell out of my eyes. I froze. "Your joking right?" I stood up. "Angelica.." She tried to calm me down, but it didn't work. It never works. "No, mom, NO. I'm not a property, I'm not an object. Are you actually crazy? how are we even related?" I screamed in her face. She stood up to. Fast. The cup almost fell over. "Don't scream at me young lady. You know we don't have a choice. Your dad had gambled it all away. All our money!" Her face went red. "All you've ever cared of is money" I started walking out of the room. "Angelica, listen" She was back to her normal self I think. "This is happening. You're going to be married to an rich guy with a rich family, who can get us money and keep us from getting on the street. Both your father and I have made our decision." But I didn't answer. I just walked back to my room and sat down at my bed. I had to escape. I had to run away. I simply could not except this.
I wrote a note to my nanny. I knew she would let me go. She basically did the same herself. Then I look some money and hid it under my bed. I had to escape at nighttime. Or my mom would see me from the window. Or the gards would know. It was an 10 minutes walk from the train to get here. So I'd simply run and save 5 minutes.
The night came and I walked in silence out of the building. It was surprisingly easy getting out of there. All of the sudden I was out. I started running. I knew the way. I had the money, and a map with me. I was traveling to the center of London. The summer air was cold. But it made sense, since it was nighttime. But it would have been a lot colder in the winter. With the snow and all of that. And I hate cold feet. And there. As fast as that. I was now standing outside the train station. I looked at the list, and found train 2033. It was the one I would have to take. It took around 3 hours. I should have taken a book with me.
And pow, I was in London. I knew where to go. The streets where kinda scary. Drunk people all over spitting comments after me. I just walked past it, kept being in the light. Until I finally found the little hotell. I walked in. It was pretty simple. "Excuse me miss?" I looked at the lady behind the desk. "Do you have a reservation?" She kept writing something in a book. Maybe she was an author? Or It could just be an register? "No, I'd like to rent a room, please?" She looked me up and down. "Fair enough darlin', what's your name, age and how long?" "Angelica forest, 17 in a week and I'll pay for one week at the time." I felt great. I gave her the money and she showed me the room and gave me a simple key if I wanted to lock the room when I was out. It was a small room, like a bedroom. It had its own bed, desk, a lamp and a closet. We could all use the kitchen downstairs.
The next day I figured I had to buy some clothes. And maybe find a fake name. I knew my parents didn't care about me as a person, but they cared about money. And they would do anything to get it. I was walking in public, lost in my own mind with all these names when I suddenly crashed into someone. "Excuse me?" I said, even tho I was the one who had crashed. They turned around. It was a gorgeous boy. All of a sudden, I understood all of nanny's stories. "Well aren't you a funny one. I think I'm the one who should say excuse me" He looked at me with a half smile. With hi's deep brown eyes. For the first time in my whole life, I did not know what to say. "Whats your name?" He said. "Whats yours?" I said back. "I asked first" He replied back. "I dont care". "Well, my name is Louis Partridge. Guess it's your turn" I thought. I had to say a name. Just a name. I looked around and noticed a sign. "I'm Sasha Diner" But shockingly he just looked behind him and saw the sign "Sasha's diner". "No your not. What are you hiding" He was teasing. I saw it in hi's eyes. "Fine. I bet I'll never see you again anyways. I'm Angelica Forest" The name seem to have lighten something in hi's head. "Oh wait aren't you supposed to be home? I've seen the notes all over town. About a missing bride" My inside turned cold. Shit.
