Mr. and Mrs. Lovegood of Ottery St Catchpole were proud to say they were exceptionally abnormal, thank you very much. Their daughter, Luna Lovegood, would be starting at Hogwarts this year. Xenophilius and Pandora Lovegood could not have been prouder of their only daughter. Yes, Pandora would have to watch her daughter's first year at Hogwarts from heaven, but nevertheless, she could not have been prouder. Luna had already packed all her things for school, and she could not have been more excited to learn from the professors at Hogwarts. However, what she desires the most was to make real friends for the first time in her life. She had spent a large part of the summer memorizing fun facts about nargles, hoping that she could use them to make friends. She smiled to herself, unable to contain her excitement that she would soon have the chance to cover her now blank walls with pictures of her new friends.

At the exact same time a year later, a man named Rubeus Hagrid, gamekeeper and Keeper of Keys and Grounds of Hogwarts, had just broken down the door of the large rock where Harry Potter and his family were staying. Harry's life was about to change irreversibly, and Luna had no idea that her life would change irreversibly as well. Harry took his Hogwarts letter in his hands. Luna read over her Hogwarts letter one more time, just to assure herself that she would soon be going and that she was not imagining it all under the influence of wrackspurts.
