I wanted to laugh.

After all the pain that he'd caused me, after refusing to believe my innocence, and after firing and kicking me out the ranch, now he's sending someone telling me that he wants me back.

I didn't know what to say. Rick said that the boss was so sorry about the things that he did to me. He was sorry for believing the false accusation so he wants me back to the ranch to make it up to me.

"I am not going back."

Rick looked at me. "But Mr. Jackson wants to talk to you--"

"There's nothing to talk about," I said, slightly shaking my head. "Knowing that the real thief has confessed to her crime is enough for me. I'm glad that my name has been cleared but I am not going back."

The fact that he's sorry and yet he couldn't even show himself to say that in front of me makes me want to laugh.

I've already started to live again the way I used to before I came to the ranch. As much as I wanted to see Sarah and the rest, I didn't want to come back. I was too pained and humiliated. I was trying to live a peaceful life away from the ranch and now that I was doing fine with my job, I just wanted to stay here in Santa Maria with John.

My mind was flooded with thoughts even after Rick departed. I was thinking about everything he'd said even if I was at work. It didn't feel good to waste the opportunity to work in the ranch again but my pride was taking over me and I thought it was best for me to stay this way. I would not come back and I just wanted to forget everything and continue living my life now.

For a moment, I thought that was the end of it but I didn't expect to see Rick again on the doorstep of our apartment a couple of days later saying the same thing: "Mr. Jackson wants you back."

Holding the door, I frowned. "I thought I already told you I'm not going back."

Rick sighed and looked at me with his serious eyes. "I was told not to leave Santa Maria without you, Jane," he said. "I'm sorry for coming back but I am just doing my job."

And that was when the chase began.

He started coming back everyday trying to convince me to come with him back to the ranch and I would tell him the same answer.

But still, he wont stop.

I don't hate Rick, but he started pissing me off because everytime I would open the door of our apartment, it was his face I would see.

"Go home, Rick. Knocking on my apartment door everyday will not change my decision."

He would just shake his head no. "I am just following the boss' order. You have to come with me."

"He's no longer my boss, can you just tell him to leave me alone?"

"But Mr. Jackson wants to talk to you--"

"Then tell him I don't wanna talk to him!"

I slammed the door shut.

I didn't want to be rude but I thought I had to hoping that he would just get tired and finally stop. I started refusing to open the door whenever he'd knock and I started ignoring him outside our apartment. I would look out the window and I would see him down the street in his black suit, leaning against his car and waiting for me to talk to him.

"Who's that tall guy outside?" John asked me one time. "I've been seeing him for days, just standing in front of the building."

"I don't know," I lied. "Just ignore him. If he talked to you, don't talk back."
