IT WAS DURING THE COLD WINTER. Heroes versus villains. A huge war that rose many questions regarding the heroes' mission statement and their overall intentions. A war that resulted in many deaths and injuries.
Katsuki Bakugo being among one of many.
During battle, after being severely injured, he was rushed to the hospital for intensive care and surgery.
"Check his vitals!"
"Are they stable!?"
"Rush him into the E.R!!"
"His bleeding won't stop!"
Bakugo could only recall the dim, blurry lights of the hospital and the shouting of nurses before he slipped into unconsciousness. After many hours of surgery, he was finally underway to recovery weeks later.
"Due to many citizens and heroes being injuried, we're trying to squeeze in as many people into the hospitals as we can." One of the nurses explained to Aizawa outside of Bakugo's hospital room.
"Since Bakugo is only going through recovery, he doesn't need a whole room to himself. We're going to transfer him into a conjoined room with another patient. Is that alright?"
"Of course, but there's no guarantee the patient will want to put up with Bakugo." Aizawa sighed, rubbing the back of his neck. The nurse chuckled.
"Trust me, this patient will probably help him in a number of ways. If it's alright, we'll begin the transfer tomorrow."
. . .
"Heard that you're transferring rooms too, Kacchan!" Deku beamed excitedly as they sat in the hospital cafeteria for lunch. The cafe was buzzing with patients, mainly with the ones who didn't have fatal injuries. Plates and glasses clinking, shoes shuffling, and chatter filled the large room. "I'm getting transferred to a room with a boy named Ryo. He's really nice, and his quirk is really cool!"
"Yeah, I guess. I don't wanna share my room with an extra." Bakugo mumbled, poking at his pudding with a plastic spoon. Deku gave a crooked smile. "I'm sure it won't be that bad. If anything, you can just ignore them."
"Hm." Bakugo replied tiredly.
"...How're the injuries?"
"They're fine. Just wish I could get out of this damn hospital already. The food sucks and the nurses check up on me every few hours. It's irritating."
"Aw, come on Kacchan. They're just making sure you aren't dead. Besides, the nurses are nice! We'll be out of here in no time. Just look on the brighter side of things!—"
"—You're annoying me."
"Figured." Deku chuckled, quickly closing his mouth.
. . .
"Here is your new room!" The nurse opened the door large white door to Bakugo's new territory. It had a pale green and brown aesthetic interior, with two small twin beds, a curtain dividing them. A large window was placed in the center of the back wall, a visible view of the city.
No one else was in the room, besides the nurse and Bakugo, but the bed closest to the window had a journal, pens, and a stuffed animal placed on top of the sheets. The night stand next to that bed had other stationary objects scattered around, along with a vase of red flowers.
"Get settle into this bed, and I'll stop by to check on you again in a few hours!" The nurse pointed to the empty bed near the door and smiled, before stepping back into the busy hallway and closing the door.
Bakugo sighed, limping towards his new bed. His injuries didn't necessarily hurt as much as before, but there were still many side effects; cramps, limping, soreness. Luckily, Aizawa and the nurses moved all his belongs into his new space, so Bakugo didn't have to worry about unpacking anything.
Bakugo carefully sat on the fresh white linen, reaching for the T.V remote. He clicked through the channels, getting more and more fatigued as the background noise of the television calmed his nerves, causing him to drift into a light nap.
. . .
"Afternoon y/n! Been on the rooftop all morning?"
"You know me! Painting 24/7!"
"Be sure to greet your new roommate!"
Bakugo overheard a conversation on the other side of the door as he awoke from his nap, the T.V still playing in the background. A few moments later, a person slid open the hospital room door.
The girl froze is the doorway, her and Bakugo making intense eye contact. Bakugo felt a nervous pit form in his stomach.
My roommate...
...she's a girl?
