Quentin the All Star

"Oh jeez I'm so nervous..." David grumbled to himself, "Why, mid terms passed and you got pretty good grades, and Esports Final matches aren't until next week." Edward questioned his friend, "No it's not that... I mean ya it kind of is, but not for that reason I'm so nervous, it's because.... Well...." "So you're ready Dave?" "Nope!" "Neither am I!" Quentin sluggishly sat down in the booth, both had long and tired faces, "Is it because of all the Valentine's Day incidents?" "No this is bigger..." "BIGGER! How can anything top off what we experienced only a few days ago!" "Today's musical tryouts Egg." Rose slid next to her boyfriend, snuggling up against him, "Any freshman wants to make a good first impression for High School Musical tryouts." "But... but David, you've never done a musical! And Q I thought the memories of doing the Middle School ones would have warned you not to repeat your same mistake." "Jeez Ed, I may be fat, but I do think I pack a pretty good set of vocals." His friend shook his head slightly, "And Quentin over here might not be able to sing or dance as well as others, but his dedication to character development and dialogue is on point." The lad nodded in agreement, "I memorized this massive monologue for the first time and I think I got it down pretty well." "Well what even is the musical this year?" "Lads and Ladies," Rose perked up, "What?" "It's a romantic comedy of sorts, it's got gambling, fight scenes... you know, the assorted." "Oi... well why do you know this?" She just smiled up at him, "Because I'm auditioning as well!" The freshman didn't realize what he just heard until a few seconds after, "So... so you guys are just gonna hang out without me?" "Why don't you audition Ed my boy?" Q chuckled, "I don't act... or sing or dance. I hate the entire setting of a musical actually, It's so awkward and weird to speak in front of a crowd, dance and make a fool of yourself in front of friends and family." The group sat silently looking at the lengthy lad, he stared back awkwardly, "So... uh they're also doing pit auditions in a few weeks." He looked down at the girl next to him, who was putting her hands into his sweater pockets, "Ugh... I'm only doing this so... well I don't know, but it feels wrong if I don't!" "That's the spirit!" The large lad grinned, "But... that still doesn't change what we have to do tonight." "Ya... ya." Quentin's mind faded elsewhere as the group parted, he remembered an interesting time in his life... a sacred part of his past. 7th grade musical, after much pressure from old friends and his parents he took a breath and signed up for the 5:30 audition time. In that small hallway connecting the auditorium to the upstairs sitting area he watched many serious and well fitted kids audition for the role he wanted. In the group he was up with, the majority were crappy 6th graders, but one stood next to him with something different the rest. This darkly dressed girl sang like crap... but acted as if her life depended on it. Quentin however bombed his first time acting and singing, and felt destroyed afterwards when he waited for his parents to pick him up. That musical experience he discovered the hidden joys of interacting with others, making a fool of yourself on stage but laughing it off like you just rolled off the couch. As the final performance came for the 7th grade show Quentin sat alone still, he had bonded with few, but not enough to actually call them friends. And in that quiet moment for him a figure sat next to him... and changed his life. "Quentin..." David rested his massive hand on his sweating friend's shoulder, "You'll do the most fucking spectacular job out there than any person has ever seen." His friend stared up as he heard those words, the crowded waiting room sounded so quiet in his ears, all except his friend's words could be heard to him, "Now... fuck em up my comrade!" He shoved him out of his band room seat and towards the next group of people leaving to audition, The large lad watched his friend leave, a spark of confidence in his eyes as the doors closed behind him. "There... there is a true survivor. One who has stared death in the face and is willing to cope with it, one who fears not what others think of him even in his worst moments." "Such wise words from such a dull looking uh...." "Freshman, I'm a freshman." "My god you're the biggest freshman I've ever seen!" The lad didn't like others listening to his conversations, but would make an exception to Rose... but then he remembered Rose had already auditioned and left. "Wait... who are you?" He looked up to see a girl staring down at him, but although he was sitting he was still equal to her eye level. "I'm Julie, um I'm Don's girlfriend." "Ohhhh... it's a pleasure to meet you then, any friend of Don's is a friend of mine!" He stood up ready to shake her hand, however at his full height the girl was only about 4 foot 10. "Uh... anyway where is the leader?" "He already auditioned, I'm sure he'll get a part too, as a Junior he's built up quite the reputation." "Man I wish I could say the same..." Meanwhile Quentin clammered as the person in front of him entered the auditorium for their turn, and he was next. "Calm down Q... calm the fuck down you idiot!" "Quentin Rikker... it's your turn." His face turned pale, his mind went blank, but his body moved on it's own towards the stage, "Hello... I'm Quentin Rikker and..." He thought for a second, trying to find something to calm his troubled mind, and then he remembered his friend's words. "And I would like to audition for the role of Nice John," "Great! Please start with your monologue, then we'll move on to singing and dancing." "Good friends, sweet friends, let me not stir you up
