As I picked up my last bag, I was relieved to be going home. I think it was safe to say that this was the worst holiday ever. When we arrived on the first day, the heating didn't work, and we couldn't find the boiler room or the basement. On the second day, the lights burst, and we have to use an oil lamp. We hear screams on the third, and on the fourth, a huge oak tree in the back yard crashed through my bedroom window. The fifth day was probably the worst day.
On the fifth day, it was raining and we were informed that a couple was on their way to the mansion for their honeymoon. It was really slippery outside, and the couple coming up to the drive lost control of the wheel. Their car crashed through the door, smashing it and putting the newly weds into a coma. Not an hour later, a huge thunder storm hit, making the light on our oil lamp blow out and making us freeze, but the worst part was still to come. I wasn't able to sleep that night because the floor boards were creaking with nobody walking on them . My beds legs snapped, and I had to sleep on the cold hardwood floor. I woke up at 3:00 am. to crawling beetles and cockroaches on my face.
We were supposed to stay for seven days but on the fifth day we decided that we were going home on the sixth day of the morning. what we didn't know was what the sixth day had planned for us.
I put my bag into the car alongside the rest of the bags. I turned around to stand next to my family and stare at the mansion. I'd be lying if I said I'd miss the place because I wouldn't, and I don't lie. I wasn't going to miss the cold nights or the creaking floor boards. I wouldn't miss the bugs everywhere or the rainy nights. I think the one thing I was looking forward to leaving behind was the screams. Just then, we heard another scream (but it was different this time, almost like it was someone else this time). Yep. I wouldn't miss the screams at all. We looked around to realize that my mother hadn't left the house. I had never heard my mum scream before, so it was probable to be her. What puzzled me the most was why? She hadn't screamed the whole time we had spent at the mansion, so why now.
We all ran inside, and my sister soon departed from us to go find mum on her own. The rest of us thought we would be able to cover more ground if we split up. We all kept on bumping into each other except for my sister. There was now no sign of my mum or my sister. We then heard them both screaming. You could tell that they were crying in the screams because of the way they screamed. I went off to find my brother and my dad, and once we were together, we heard another scream, but they died out quicker this time. We followed the screams, and they led us to the basement( its just my luck that we find it on the day we leave). We decided to split up so we could find them faster. I soon found them crying next to a dummy with red paint all over it. As I got closer to it, I realized that it was a dead body covered in blood from head to toe. It was hard to identify the body, but my dad is a detective. He works on murders and sometimes I tag along, and I'm able to help crack the case, but this time, I was stumped. This house had been abandoned for years and me and my family and I were the first to set foot on the property in years. It seems we weren't.
I called my dad and my brother over, and we all knelt next to the body, and I gave a few words.
'' Even though we don't know who you are, we are very sorry for the loss of your life. I'm sure you were loved by many, and they are upset that you are gone. You look like you were taken in a bad way, and you look like you still had a few years ahead of you, but they were cut short. I'm incredibly sorry. My condolences to you, sir.''
My dad said he would call into the station, but his phone was in the car with everyone's phones. Mine was in my pocket, but it was dead, and the charger was in my other pocket, but there was no plug socket in the basement. Dad told me to go and grab his phone from the car. I got up and went to the door. There was a silhouette of a tall, skiny man blocking the way out. He turned the light on ( it seems the basement was the only room where the lights worked) and the silhouette of the man turned into a man in a black hoodie on with the hood up over his face and his hands in his pockets. He took one hand out of his pocket and brought one finger to his lip as he said,''ssssshhhhhh'' he looked up at me and smiled. He brought out his other hand from the pocket holding a knife covered in blood, and the top had a lump of skin on it. I screamed and ran to my family. We all got up and ran to the fire exit, but when we opened the door, there was a brick wall with six shelves full of sharing tools and weapons on top.
My mum turned around and screamed. He was slowly pacing towards us. I turned back round to the wall and pushed. It moved slightly but not enough to get any of us out. My family turned back round and pushed with me. The wall moved again. It was like a book case leading to a secret passage way except that the wall led to the driveway.
My brother was the first one out, but he wasn't careful enough, and he knocked on the wall. It started to close, so my dad and I had to hold it open. Once it was just us, he told me to go first, and we got into a huge fight. In the end, I pushed him out, but it was out that the wall closed on me. By now, the man was just a few steps away. I pushed and pushed the wall, but it wouldn't move. I heard the car start and drive off. My family had left me. I turned around to find the man standing opposite me. He smiled once more, and he brought the knife above his head and swung down towards my head...
Wait.Wait.Wait. Let's start from the beginning.
