It was just one of those normal days when something extraordinary happened. Something that would change a young girl's life for the better, or for the worst. Skylar Shift, a normal fourteen year old girl, was assisting her older sister, Annabelle, with fixing their apartment's electricity. Once again, it had quit working and all their electricity went out in their miniature apartment. "Hey, Skylar! Mind watching the box for a minute while I grab something from the kitchen?" Shaking her head in reply, Skylar moved over to the electricity box that was set on a small stool. As soon as Annabelle had exited the room, she picked up a glass half full of water, which was forbidden by her older sister. Pans clattered in the kitchen, distracting Skylar, causing her to look to the door. While she wasn't paying attention, the glass tipped at such an angle that drips of cool liquid dripped onto the wires.

The water that had been dropped onto the box sizzled and hissed viciously as it began to heat up. Skylar quickly turned to see the now smoking box and let out a yelp of shock as it exploded, throwing her against the garage wall on the opposite side of the room. Millions of tiny sparks flew in the boiling air like fireflies coming out at night. The door flung open, revealing the shocked face of Annabelle. "Skylar!" She yelled out, her deep green eyes searching the rapidly heating room. As she spotted her little sister; whom had fall against the wall and seemed to be unconscious, she sprinted through the steamy room with great speed until she had reached her small, immobile body. Scooping her up in her bare arms, she ran over melting metal, which started to burn through her shoes.

As she ran with the younger girl in her arms, a huge explosion caused chucks of the walls and ground to fly out towards them. Sweat ran down Annabelle's shiny face due to the heat and she tripped. Falling to the ground, her knee now bleeding, she crawled weakly to a grassy area, placing Skylar down.

Once the flames had subsided slightly and Skylar was returning from the blast, Annabelle stared out over the damage. There was no way that they could live in such a wrecked place. "Sky...I am so sorry..." she whispered to her sister as she kneeled beside her weak body. "I-It's...fine." Skylar said in between violent coughs. "It's not your...fault."

She didn't believe her. It was her fault and she knew it. "Look, Sky, let's just be glad that we're both alive." What she didn't know was that that wasn't exactly true. Only a few hours later, after they had bandaged themselves, Annabelle was hit. It seemed as if everything was going downhill for Skylar. This was the day that everything changed. Her life would never be the same again.

Since she was now alone and had no other family nearby, she decided to just find shelter for the time being. She scoured the streets for a place before coming across an abandoned warehouse. It wasn't the best, nor was it the cleanest, but it was shelter. And that's what she was searching for.

"What the hell has happened to me?" asked Skylar as she sat on the bug infested floor, her face smeared with ash. Rain drizzled down and into the warehouse since a majority of the windows were smashed. "Dammit..." She murmured as she sighed. By now, her house was burned to a crisp and frankly, she was quite concerned about nightfall.

Anything could happen and she knew it. She startled as she heard thunder echo up in the heavens, lightning coming only a few seconds before. She was unaware of the fact that something had been unleashed inside her. Something uncontrollable. This, she would find, would be yet another struggle she would have to deal with in her crazy life.
