III || Infected

One thing I knew - or better that I learned over the time - was that broken hearts didn't help in a Zombie apocalypse.
They were even worse than hopeless, one sided love..

[The next day, arriving at the police station]

‚Alright, I'd say we split up into two groups.' Seyoung explained. ‚Sangmin, Yui and Yongseok with me. We take the west wing. The rest to the east wing. Take all the supplies and munitions you can find. And..' Seyoung looked at us with serious eyes. ‚Listen to your RT units.. We don't know what's in there..'

Our two groups separated. Like Seyoung had said, we made our way towards the east wing.

The building was surprisingly big.. Before Day Z it must have been one of the biggest police stations in town. According to a map on the wall, the station consisted of two wings and three to the wings connected buildings. That's no doubt enough space for another nest. Yui had been right.. The prisoners that were kept here, probably never had been freed and are now either dead or infected. All just added up to the possibility of a nest waiting for us ahead.

Casper took the lead, Takuya and I followed closely after him. We walked along hallway after hallway. In the top floor most of them were cell blocks. Everything was quiet. Here and there we were able to find some gun magazines or a can of food. But it wasn't much.

‚In a building this big, you would expect to find a lot, but..' I rummaged through my backpack. ‚up til now we have found barely anything..' Even talking quietly, my voice echoed from the walls.

‚You can check later what we've got.. get going.' Capser scolded me, walking on with his gun up and alert.

When he was busy rummaging through a small room on the side, I went back into the corridor, noticing the door to the rooftop open slightly. A young girl was peeking inside, looking very frightened. She was very small, her hair black and cut in a medium length bob.

‚She's not infected, isn't she?' Takuya, who had also noticed her, asked quietly. ‚How could she survive that long?'

‚All alone in this building... she's probably scared to death. We have to help her!' I said, my voice getting more urgent.

The small girl turned away as quickly as she had come, disappearing on the rooftop again.

‚Wait!' I called out running after her.

‚Shin! Wait!' Takuya's and Casper's voice echoed behind me, but I was determined to help the girl. I couldn't just leave her here.

I ran onto the rooftop, right behind her. She had reached a dead end, cowering in a corner against the wall. Her small body was trembling.

Did she think I was infected?

‚Bleib weg, lass mich in Ruhe! (Stay away from me!)‚ The girl cried out in a weak shaking voice.

[AN: The girl is supposed to be a foreigner... as German is the only other language I know I went with it.. the English translation is just for you guys to understand what she's saying, the other characters don't really understand her.. you'll see]

I slowly walked towards her.

‚Everything is alright.. don't be afraid. I just want to help you.' I tried my best to calm her. A few steps away from her I stopped, waiting for a reaction. She hesitantly turned her head my way examining me from top to bottom.

I was about get closer one step at a time, but she backed away again as Takuya and Casper turned up behind me.

‚Don't run away like that, Shin.' Takuya exclaimed worried. I quickly put my finger on his lips to silence him nodding towards the girl on the ground. He smiled slightly. Walking past me he crouched down next to her.
