also me: yEea l s o: sorry if this is a little OOC (out of character) I don't have the strongest grasp on what tsukauchi is like)
Warnings: none, except a scary amount of paper work
Word Count: 1140"Well well well, what do we have here." You said groggily, a silk robe adorning you as you swiveled around in one of the chairs that were in your apartment, flicking on a lamp as you did so. Your eyes narrowed at your police officer husband, you watched with amusement as he winced at having been caught. Mission accomplished, you'd successfully channeled the perfect amount of "catching my teenage daughter sneaking back into the house at an ungodly hour" energy.
"H-hello love, what are you doing up this early? Wouldn't it be more comfortable for you if you were just in bed...sleeping...and not having remembered any of this?" He said, the volume of his voice getting gradually softer as he scratched the back of his head nervously.
You stood up and brushed past him, flicking on the light in the living room you were standing in, and pointing at a clock on the wall accusingly, hand on your hip.
"Now now, love, you're a smart man. Now, being the smart man you are, could you tell me the time please dear?" You said, putting an excessive amount of cheerfulness in your voice.
He sighed and mumbled, "Three am..."
"Sorry what was that? You're going to have to speak up a little louder."
"It's...it's three am dear."
You pinched the bridge of your nose in frustration, "Now why, would you be coming home at three am? No! Most importantly, why did I wake up two hours ago, to remove your hand from my side while I tried to turn over, only to discover that it in fact it was not your arm but a freaking mop!?"
You watched your husband chuckle nervously as he shifted from foot to foot, mumbling under his breath as he tried to come up with an explanation as to why he'd decided to place a mop on his sleeping wife, in an attempt to replicate the feeling of his arm around her. He couldn't just flat out say that it was because he snuck out to get back to the police station, it was the very thing you'd been telling him not to do. But as he looked at you, you who was now standing with arms folded and wearing a look that could kill, he had a feeling that you knew of his whereabouts already.
"Listen dear I-"
"Oh don't dear me Tsukauchi-"
"Love, we're married, have been for the last ten years, your last name is Tsukauchi too- I'm- i'm sorry continue dear. Sorry! I said it again." He said, stopping as he looked at the expression on your face. Eyes narrowed, frown evident and venom lacing your every syllable, his breath hitched. He'd faced many villains in his line of work, but your ill intended expressions never failed to send an unpleasant shiver down his spine.
"Naomasa, explain. And don't think of using that 'I went outside because I heard something in the bushes' excuse with me again, nobody goes out to check the bushes in a suit and tie."
"You'd actually be surprised to know just how many people actually do that. All the kids these days are doing it-"
"Naomasa."
"Right." He sighed, setting down a briefcase that he'd been carrying in his overworked and calloused hands. Work had been hard, with new leads on the League of Villains and more and more organized crime starting to pop up, the whole station had been in an overworking frenzy. An avalanche of paperwork had been thrust upon his desk everyday. Some of them holding files of new leads, some letters from angry citizens urging the police department to do more, some were requests from the media asking for an interview, some were newspaper clippings that had been highlighted and scrawled to mark any interesting information and the list went on and on.
You of course, wonderful and caring you, had been concerned from the get go, pulling a tutor move and taking the initiative to write out a schedule for your hardworking husband. Indicating what to do and when to do it in different time increments as to not lead to stress, but alas, even with a quirk that allowed you to see and feel danger, nothing could have prepared you to see the danger in how much work your husband was getting himself into.
"(Y/n) you know what's been going on I just can't leave all those reports on my desk unopened, there could be a lead in there that I can pick out if I just have one more moment to analyze-"
"Naomasa-"
"If I just have one more hour to see what I can notice in the reports, than maybe i'll be one hour closer to being able to execute a plan to stop the crime-"
"Naomasa-"
"To stop whatever is happening and to keep people safe, to keep you safe-"
"Naomasa!"
The police man stopped, turning himself towards you and feeling his chest burn at the sight. As his eyes adjusted, he saw the state you were in, hair in disarray and eyes dark and puffy, you'd obviously been crying.
"What's- what's wrong?" He said stepping closer cautiously, putting an arm on each shoulder he scanned your face, lips slightly parted as he continued his examination. Working along detectives taught him many things about analyzing faces, but he already had enough knowledge from being married to you for a decade, however you usually never displayed such emotion along your attractive features.
"Naomasa it's an absolute train wreck inside my brain! I don't know how else to explain it! Maybe it's because i'm tired or maybe it's because it's three in the morning but I just can't take it. And I don't even know what it is! I barely get to spend time with you! But it's so selfish of me to say that because then i'd be pulling you away from your work and pulling you away from work means i'm pulling you away from helping others. But I can't help myself. And you! You come home at ungodly hours! Sneaking out and overworking yourself! When was the last time you sat down and took a breather? But I feel like I can't say this because you need to help people but please help yourself first." Your hands had now moved from your sides to his chest, fingers fisting his coat, face distorted in agony.
He pulled you in abruptly for a hug, kissing the top of your forehead. "I'm sorry dear, I didn't...I wasn't thinking, I was caught up in the storm. I promise I won't sneak out again, and the person I care most about keeping safe is you. I'll try to manage everything better from now on okay?"
You sniffled nodded in reply.
"It's a shame in one sense though, the mop snores less."
"Hey!"
(A/N: I didn't like this one that much, let me know whatchu thought though, this ones a little fast paced~)
