3rd Person POV:

Pete loved going to the bookshop down the street ever since he was little.

He loved the smell of the books, and how he could get lost for hours inside them. The stories, the people and everything he learnt from them. He loved books.

Whenever he saved up enough allowance, he would purchase his new favourite book. Other times, he would just sit there and read all day. The kind old lady running the shop never minded him as he was always well-behaved. He had his own special corner in the secluded corner of the bookstore where he would immerse himself in piles and piles of stories each and every time.

During the holiday, he would go there from dawn till dusk. Some mornings, he would get so excited that he accidentally reached a whole hour before the bookstore even opened. Whenever that happened, he would move to sit outside on the steps and wait while doodling in his sketchbook.

One day, however, it started to pour.

Without an umbrella nor any shelter to shield him from the rain, Pete got soaked. Sketchbook wet, Pete squatted close to the entrance of the bookstore, crouching low.

"Ai, child! Come! Come in! Don't stay there in the rain!" A warm voice startled Pete.

He felt the rain stop and looked up timidly, surprised to see a middle-aged lady holding out an umbrella over his head.

"You're the child that holes himself in the bookstore, right?" The lady asked.

Pete nodded, shivering slightly from the cold.

"Do you want to come into my shop until the rain stops?" She asked gently. She eyed his wet clothes with genuine worry.

Pete nodded again, slowly getting up and following the kind lady.

He was led to a small cafe across the road. The inside wasn't that big, but it was homely. The cafe theme was a light brown, with complementing colours and small decorations placed artistically around. The cushions and soft chairs were arranged neatly around the cafe, and the aroma of brewing coffee filled his nose.

It smelt sugary and delicious.

Pete stood in front of the seat he was ushered to, hesitating to sit.

"Sit, it's okay if the chair gets wet." The lady smiled warmly at him.

"I'll go get you some towels and a change of clothes. You'll get sick if you stay in those." She frowned.

Pete nodded, and she turned away.

"Kao~? Come make our guest some hot cocoa!" She called.

She then turned back to Pete with a warm smile.

"My little boy will make you some hot chocolate to warm you up. So just wait a bit, okay?" She spoke softly.

Pete nodded, heart in his throat, as he looked at the floor.

He quietly sighed in relief after she left, tense muscles relaxing as he took out his wet sketchbook, but his face immediately fell when a page was torn from his clumsiness.

"For a bookworm, you have no idea how to take care of books, do you?"

A soft voice from behind startled Tay. He straightened up stiffly, hugging his book tight as he turned around, glaring at whoever just insulted him.

His eyes widened slightly as he saw the most adorable little boy he had ever met. Soft, dark brown hair and big, round eyes. His pink lips were plump and he seemed younger and a little shorter than Pete. The boy had smooth, chubby cheeks, making him look utterly adorable. He wore a plain white top and brown shorts, holding a mug of hot chocolate.
