Jordan
I looked at my sister, she was fast asleep on the floor, tonight she would be able to sleep in an actual bed for once, I was leaving, and I wasn't coming back. Our parents believed that the oldest, the one with the most potential should get a better night's rest, so sleeping in a bed. She didn't know that I was leaving, No one knew, not even my boyfriend Hayden. I sighed, grabbed my backpack and left tears filling my eyes. I could bear this life anymore.
I quietly slipped out the door and down the stairs, and out the door. I walked down the street, and left. I wanted my boyfriend to come pick me up and say "I've got you!" But he didn't know that I was even awake. I've never had to look out for myself. My life has always come easy. Until that one night. That one night when I lost everything.
Three Days ago:
I ran, my heart pounding harder and faster than anything. I ran through the crowded streets, and pushed through the people. My boyfriend called me and told me to meet him in the town hall for a surprise. My birthday is today. But all I wanted to do was hangout with Hayden and watch movies... and maybe cuddle. But I didn't get that wish. I never get my wishes.
"R u here yet?" Hayden texted me.
I pushed my phone back into my pocket and ran harder trying to make it to the town hall before the bell stuck twelve. I ran harder. And then I stopped and stood standing in front of the town hall entrance looking up at the clock. Then I smiled and called Hayden over to me.
"Hey you made it!" He said.
"I wouldn't miss it for the world." I said.
"Okay so this surprise-" he started but he was interrupted by a piercing scream.
I whipped my head around and saw the lady who was still screaming. I didn't know why she was screaming, I followed her gaze. She was staring at a little child in the middle of the road, why was she screaming, there weren't any cars coming for it. Then I looked and saw the guy with a gun. I watched him pull the trigger. And I watched the little girl fall dead in the street.
After that a bunch of people with guns started shooting like crazy, me and Hayden dropped to the ground and arm crawled into the town hall, I slammed the door shut behind us and wished that we hadn't been seen. I could hear the crowd outside still panicking. I felt tears streaming down my face.
"Hey, we need to get back to your house, get your family safe!" yelled Hayden through the gunshots outside.
"No, I'll go back, you get to your family." I said.
"Love you." he said opening the door and slipping out. I held my breath, If I lost Hayden I wouldn't forgive myself. Ever.
I took a deep breath, opened the door again and slipped out into the madness. I didn't bother crawling, I just ran. I ran and ran and ran until my legs gave out. I had to warn mom, dad, and my little sister, Annabell. She was really fragile and I took it upon myself to protect her.
