Clang!,Click!. The car door shut behind me as I walked out onto the curb. I looked up at my dorm of two years and I couldn't wait to spend my third year here. I gazed up at the sky and saw a bright sun and a clear blue sky. I just smiled at the beauty as the wind blew through my hair. Another year at university, I can't wait to make memories with my best friends.
" Hey! Are you really going to leave without saying goodbye to your own mother."
I turned around, leaned through the passenger door and I gave my mom a kiss on the cheek.
" Bye mom, I promise I'll call as often as I can."
My mother giggled and locked the car doors. "Please stay safe honey, and call me whenever you need me, alright". I gave an exasperated sigh and started walking closer to the building's door. "Yes mum, love you mum, see you later mum."
My mother drove off and I took off with long and confident strides towards the heavy glass doors.
As I entered through the main lobby, I spotted an older lady with brown hair and glasses sitting behind a huge desk filled with papers. Immediately the female secretary at the desk turned her head away from her work and looked up at me.
"Oh my god!, Essence you're back!".
I ran over to give Lennie a hug. " I haven't seen you in so long, Lennie."
" I was waiting for you to come for a whole two months," she said through a giddish giggle.
We separated and Lennie soon began to tell me all about her summer, she had just gotten engaged to her high school sweetheart. "That's so exciting," I exclaimed.
"That's not even the most exciting part," she cried. She turned and looked at me with a devious glint in her eyes.
"I'M GOING TO BE AN AUNT!!". We both started jumping up and down out of excitement when she suddenly turned and looked at me with a perplexed look.
"Aren't you too old to be at a dorm anymore?." she said bafflement heavily laced in her voice.
"I am but I promised my mom I would find an apartment later on in the semester."
" Fair enough, Are you and Delilah still roommates this year?"
" Yeah, she's finding an apartment with me" Lennie gasped and sat back down behind the desk.
" You two are going to have so much fun together, I remember when my best friend and I shared an apartment together. I had the most fun a girl could ever have."
"I definitely can't wait to see her, we hung out during summer but since she lived halfway across the world, it was definitely short lived."
Lennie turned back to her work, " You should go up to your dorm now, you're welcome to stop by whenever you want to." " Thanks Lennie, Have a nice day"
I began to walk over to the elevator. As I strolled past the dorms in the hallway and saw that many dorm doors were decorated with the names of the residents. As I took step after step the only thing I could hear was the inconsistent clatter of my suitcases rolling and the sound of my steps on the musty burgundy and brown carpet. I arrived at the elevator door and pressed the button for it to arrive.
I was so nervous, I hadn't seen Delilah since July, she surely must have changed in the past 2 months. What if she did change? What if we didn't click as much as we used to? Would we stop being friends? The elevator dinged to signify it's appearance, I took a deep breath and stepped through the elevator threshold. I pressed the number 4 and I just stared at the door. Ding! I was on level two, Ding! I was on level 3, Ding! I was here.
I never really stopped to think about our friendship fizzling out. The thought just never came up, but at this one moment it's the only thing I could think of. As I stood before room 402 I knocked three times and waited. I heard the shuffling of feet and the door opened slowly with a creak . . .
