i seriously don't know this place.

This was my new school, full of unfamiliar faces. People of a different ethnicity altogether.  How was I supposed to blend in?

My mom had been transferred from her job to here, in South Korea, and it suddenly had become my responsibility to struggle here with the new people and get an education.

conceal don't feel, don't let them know

i carried my books close to my chest, and walked timidly through the corridors. My confidence towards the world had already been quite low after my dad left my mother all alone, and then I also had quite an abusive boyfriend back when I was in the US- it's like I've never been given a reason to trust or like someone in the first place. I wanted to move on from the past, but there were some shadows that lingered in my nightmares.

I was feeling strange, this school followed a system of uniforms. I was wearing a checkered skirt, a white shirt with a tie of the same pattern as the skirt. It was somewhat a relief that you didn't have to care about a dress code or panic in the morning to find an outfit.

my thoughts were rushing through my head and when i entered into class, i looked lost. I was definitely the newest person anyone saw there, and I didn't know how i actually felt- was their look welcoming or not? No idea.

i scanned through the classroom and suddenly there was an excited cheer that i heard.

"Helloo!" a guy jumped out of his seat to greet me. He was seated on the second seat to the left of the teacher's table, and he was wearing a smiley badge on his shirt. some other people in class looked and smiled at me. I goofily smiled back at them.

"Umm...hi?" i lowkey greeted back, he motioned me to sit down next to the empty seat next to him. Back in the high school in my hometown, we all were almost indifferent to the new students, some of us would make eye contact, but that is it. This felt strange.

I kept my books and my bag and sat down on the chair. The boy was still smiling at me. "What, What is yo- name?" he sheepishly asked.

Don't say Miykal, he won't know how to say it.

"Miya" i uttered as i took out a notebook for class.

"ohhhh miyaaaaahhhhhh" he loudly said, as if announcing to the class. I heard everyone whispering my name to each other. This place surely was different.

"You- You from?" he asked.

"Florida" i answered, this time, returning the big sunshine smile he had on his face.

"USA?" he quickly said

"Yes" i replied. Just then, the teacher walked into class. Everyone stood up from their seats and wished him. I hurriedly got up too, matching their custom, oddly strange, but trying my best.

The teacher quite soon noticed me. "Are you a new student? the girl next to Hoseok?" he asked.

Who is Hoseok?

"Yes proffessor!" exclaimed the boy next to me. oh, so that's him. I awkwardly grinned at the teacher. "She is ...Miya" he continued.

"Miya, would you like to introduce yourself?" he offered, leaning back at his table. I rose up shyly from my desk, the class filled with whispers.

"hello everyone-" i started, blushing out of the timid feeling i had in my stomach.

"Anneyong!" the whole class answered back. I think that meant hello.

"My name is Miya Addison, I moved here from Florida, I am 16 years old" i finished quickly.

"Welcome to our class Miya, I'm Proffessor Hyeon, and I teach English." he briefed me. I sat down on my seat and put my nose into my textbook as he started the lesson.

I was enjoying the class quite a lot, the teacher was very interactive with the students, and moreover, everyone seemed very happy to learn. This wasn't quite the sight back at home, i don't know why, but i had a feeling that I am going to like this place quite more than where i had come from.

In the middle of the lesson, I side glanced at that jolly boy next to me. Hoseok, wasn't sure i could pronounce it properly. He was so pretty, his eyes, the way his hair fell on his forehead- I mean- not that I am interested in him or something, but honestly- he had a different vibe, a sunshine, an energizing energy- a person i had never even imagined.

in the middle of admiring his flawless glow, he caught me looking, i quickly went back to the text book, and he let out a funny snort. I smiled from the inside.
