~Chapter One~

Roe's POV

It had been four months since I started dancing. Being 14, I was a late starter in the sport. Most of my class had started when they were like four or something. My coach called me gifted. I was on point after three months, and, according to him, had more passion than any of the others. So now, month four, he decided to pair me up with a dance partner. And today was the day I finally got to meet her.

"ROE!" My mum screamed. "YOU'RE GOING TO BE LATE!"

I groaned. One downside of doing competitive dance? The 5:30am wake up time on a Saturday morning. Don't get me wrong, I love dance. I'm just not an early starter in the mornings.

"ROE!" She screamed again. "COMING!" I shouted back, trying to sound alive.

I flopped out of bed, landing on the floor. I shuffled over to my dresser, pulling out my dance clothes. Short black yoga shorts with my last name, Likewood, stitched on the back in fancy lettering, and a plain white low-cut polo t-shirt. I stuffed them in my bag a grabbed my dance shoes from my closet. Oh, and another reason why my coach loves me? I don't use point shoes. They're just regular dance shoes. So I'm pretty much right on my toes, and don't ask me why I have strong toes. I really have no idea. I rushed down the stairs, grabbing a banana and a Yop yogurt drink, and ran to the car.

"Finally!" My mum huffed.

I mumbled a sorry and shut the car door. As we puled out of the driveway, I caught a glimpse of myself in the mirror. I'd only been able to brush my hair and put on a bit of mascara. I was average looking, with brown hair just past my shoulders, green eyes and a dusting of freckles. Nothing special. I finished my "breakfeast" and popped a couple of TicTacs into my mouth. Soon enough, we arrived at my dance school; ODS, or Ontario Dance School. My coach, Paulo, used to teach and dance at the International Dance Academy (IDA), but came here to find "worthy students", as he says, to put into the Academy at the end of every year. I really wanted to be picked, but two years ago it went from him picking to it being an actual performing competition, where only the top three acts get in. This will be my first year in the competition, likely doing a duet with this new partner. As I walked to the entrance, I thought about how different it would be to dance in a pair.

Soon I arrived at my class. Normally, it was just me and five other girls. Maria, Lindsay, Julia, Sammy, and Gabrielle. They all had boyfriends, so sometimes I felt out of place. But they were so nice to me, we were like a clique, so they usually don't go on about it when I'm around. I went straight to the changeroom where I saw all the other girls' bags, so I guess I was late. I changed, and went to the class. I was pretty shocked when I saw six boys I'd never seen before standing in the room, casually talking to each other. I saw the girls and ran over.

"Hey!" I cheerfully said. "Hey!" They all said back. "So, um, what's with all the guys?" I asked.

"Dance partners." Julia said. My jaw dropped. I had totally assumed we were doing duets with, like, girl partners! Acro duets and all the stuff I'd seen being practiced here. I snuck a glance at the guys. They all looked like tumblr boys. So yeah, I mean like, kinda hot. Not like I was excited or anything, it just might be more enjoyable now that I knew they weren't, like, ugly..... Oh god.

"Good morning darlings!!!!" Paulo called. We all giggled. "Morning Paulo!" We chanted.

"Soo, today we are being assigned dance partners. These partners will be permanent until the end of the year. And yes, that includes the competition."

Well. At least that was expected.

"Okayy, boys, introduce yourselves!" Paulo sing songed.

The first boy had jet black hair, brown eyes, and a cute but lopsided smile. "I'm Jake!' He said.

The second boy had brownish blond hair, green eyes, and was by far the tallest of them all.

"I'm Mac." He said. He caught my eye, and I could tell he was checking me out. To be honest? It kind of creeped me out.

The next boy had blonde hair as well, and blue eyes. He was like the blond version of Barbie. "I'm Noah!" He said.

The fourth boy had shaggy black hair and greeny-brown eyes. "I'm Sam".

The next boy was Oliver, who was a brunette.

Lastly, a boy with golden blond-brown hair stepped up. He had bright blue eyes and a smile that made you want to smile too, and his hair- oh my god I'm obsessing. Ugh and I missed his name. I tapped Gabrielle. "What was the last one's name again?" I whispered. She smirked. "Leo. I guess you were to busy drooling hun." She smiled. I could feel my face heat up. I didn't like him that way I didn't even know him. I internally groaned. This will be a long year.

I looked up and that boy, Mac, was staring at me again. I noticed Leo carefully watching him with an expression I couln't read. I knew one thing though. For whatever reason something told me Mac could be trouble.
