I ran.
My feet pounded the pavement rhythmically, adrenalin pumping through my veins. Thunder clapped the air and electrifying lightening cracked the sky. Sheets of rain pummelled my body, soaking me to the skin. I peered over my shoulder in paranoia, scanning the alleyway for him.
I allowed myself a small sigh of relief when he was nowhere to be seen, but I reminded myself not to be too relieved. For all I knew, his looming shadow could be lurking round the next corner, ready to grab me and take me back to that horrible place with its clinical white sheets and blindingly bright lights.
I kept running...
I must escape, I told myself. I must get away from that place.
Suddenly I was taken back to that December evening, a couple of weeks back, that fateful evening when it all went wrong.
